About This Position:

This position is a direct supervisor and working member of a statewide sign installation crew. Operates the equipment to install, maintain and repair signs on mostly interstate right of ways. May also perform work on other state right of way.

While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Services laws, rules and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

Minimum Qualifications

Four years of experience in the construction, maintenance, or repair of roads, bridges, levees, drainage facilities, wharfs, buildings, or grounds; OR

Four years of experience in the operation or maintenance of electronically controlled locks or industrial or heavy mobile equipment.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Schedule the work for the crew on a day to day basis and on a long term basis in order that his equipment and personnel can be utilized to the best advantage.

  • Responsible for recruiting an adequate staff in order to have sufficient manpower to carry the work load. Responsible for making certain that all markings and all signs installed by his crews are applied and installed according to Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices and DOTD policy.

  • Responsible for quality control of his crew which means, starches on new signs, signs not being installed level and straight, signs and the work location being clean after installation. Moreover, to verify that sign orientation is installed correctly.

  • Required to remove sign trusses and cantilever on state routes that have failed inspection.

    Position Specific Details:

    Appointment Type: This position may be filled by Probation, Promotion, Detail to Special Duty or Job Appointment.

    Compensation: This position is eligible for premium pay of $2.00 for every hour worked.
