The Department of Environmental Quality's Office of Environmental Compliance has a vacancy.
The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality’s (LDEQ) mission is to provide service to the people of Louisiana through comprehensive environmental protection in order to promote and protect health, safety, and welfare.
Lead the work that protects public health and shapes the future of radiation safety. As anEnvironmental Scientist Supervisor, you will guide a team of professionals at the forefront of regulating radioactive materials and radiation-producing equipment—ensuring compliance, driving quality, and influencing policy that impacts communities statewide. This is a leadership role for a subject matter expert ready to mentor staff, oversee critical regulatory processes, and play a key part in advancing strategic and legislative initiatives within a high-impact program.
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field plus three years of experience in an environmental program, nuclear energy or radiation protection program; Geographic Information Systems (GIS); an environmental, analytical, or research laboratory, LIMS (Lab Integrated Management Systems), or laboratory auditing; OR
A master’s degree in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field plus two years of the experience in an environmental program, nuclear energy or radiation protection program; Geographic Information Systems (GIS); an environmental, analytical, or research laboratory, LIMS (Lab Integrated Management Systems), or laboratory auditing; OR
A doctorate in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field plus one year of experience in an environmental program, nuclear energy or radiation protection program; Geographic Information Systems (GIS); an environmental, analytical, or research laboratory, LIMS (Lab Integrated Management Systems), or laboratory auditing.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
Supervise and support staff within the Radiation Licensing Unit to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant completion of all licensing and regulatory activities.
Review, approve, and ensure quality of technical work, correspondence, and regulatory documents in accordance with state and federal requirements.
Provide training, mentoring, and guidance to staff to develop and maintain qualifications as license writers.
Oversee data management, quality assurance/quality control processes, and performance reporting, including use of TEMPO and tracking of key program metrics.
Contribute to regulatory and program development by participating in workgroups, drafting regulations and policy documents, and supporting legislative and strategic initiatives.

Compensation:This position offers a Special Entrance Rate (SER) listed below. This is the minimum compensation that may be offered. The job title and salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
