About this Job:
The overall function of this position is to assist professional engineers and/or higher-level technicians in the performance of drafting, design, survey, and/or water resources work in the District Design Office. These responsibilities include ensuring that all work is produced in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with departmental policies and procedures. This position is located in District 61/Unit 170/East Baton Rouge Parish of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to the Engineer 6. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times with minimal supervision and also be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.

Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR
Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
Utilizes a thorough knowledge and understanding of Department procedures, policies, standards and specifications in the drafting or designing of construction plans, plan changes, and/or contracts and specifications
Uses CADD and other engineering-related software programs to complete engineering drawings and and/or surveys.
Plot and drafts very complex engineering and/or surveying drawings using computer and drafting software.
Prepares contract proposals and contract documents for more complex projects let at the district level and handles all aspects of the District Letting process. Write specifications and compose plan proposals.
May serve as a principal survey instrument operator or survey party chief. Use survey date to prepare plan sheets for plans for details such intersection layouts, drainage details etc.

Compensation: Depends on qualifications.This position receives Premium Pay of $2.00/hour for every hour worked.Below is the starting hourly rate for each level.
Engineering Technician 1 -$14.00/hourly
Engineering Technician 2 -$16.03/hourly
Engineering Technician 3 -$18.35/hourly
Engineering Technician 4 -$21.00/hourly
