About this position:
The overall function of this position is to assist the Project Engineer (Engineer 6) in the everyday activities of managing a District construction unit. Duties include directing and supervising highway and bridge construction, surveying activities, contract administration, quality assurance, material management, and associated functions of a construction unit. This will also include functionally supervising employees in the Project Engineer’s office engaged in construction work with DOTD.
Minimum Qualifications
Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
NOTE:
This is a temporary position to be utilized while the incumbent is securing a Louisiana Engineer Intern certificate. Permanent status shall be denied to incumbents occupying this position.
NOTE:
Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificates are issued by the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board. Licensing requirements may be viewed at www.lapels.com.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
Assists the Engineer 6 and Project Engineer in supervising highway and bridge construction projects, including overseeing construction crews, monitoring inspection activities, and ensuring compliance with engineering standards and project specifications.
Interprets construction plans, resolves field issues using engineering judgment, meets with contractors and the public, and reviews project plans.
Uses software such as Proval and Site Manager to evaluate project performance, prepare estimates, manage documentation, review material testing and shop drawings, and process change orders.
Participates in pre-construction meetings, maintains field records, calculates project quantities, analyzes claims, and verifies material test results for construction suitability.
Conducts site investigations, prepares documentation for project final acceptance, manages material sampling and testing, and provides support for emergency or disaster response when required.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: This position may be filled by Probational, Promotional, Job Appointment or Detail to Special Duty. The Engineer Intern Applicant position can only be filled as a temporary Job Appointment. A job appointment is a temporary appointment that may last up to 36 months. This positionmaybe converted to a probational appointment once the employee passes the Fundamentals of Engineering exam. Applicants qualifying based on college training or receipt of a baccalaureate degree will be required to submit an official college transcript to verify credentials claimed.
Career Progression: This position may be filled as an Engineer Intern Applicant, Engineer Intern 1 or 2, or an Engineer 3, 4 or 5. The level at which the vacancy is filled will be determined by the qualifications of the candidate selected.
Compensation: The actual starting salary depends on the education and experience of the selected applicant.
Special Entrance rates have been established as follows:
Engineer Intern Applicant $1,923.20
Engineer Intern 1 $2115.20
Engineer Intern 2 $2263.20
Engineer 3 $2671.20
Engineer 4 $2952.00
Engineer 5 $3158.40
Required certification for applicants interested in qualifying for Engineer Intern 1 or 2: Engineer Intern Certificate in the state of Louisiana.
Required License for applicants interested in qualifying for Engineer 3, 4, or 5: Professional Engineer License in the state of Louisiana. Applications will be accepted from persons licensed to practice professional engineering in states other than Louisiana. If selected for the position, they will be required to obtain a Louisiana license prior to appointment.
