Aquatics Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY:

Develops, organizes and implements high quality, member-focused YMCA aquatic programs.

GENERAL FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, the Aquatics Coordinator is responsible for the supervision and training of assigned aquatics staff, ensuring safety, pool and staff scheduling, and routine pool-area maintenance. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete. Conducts staff in-services and trainings in conjunction with regulatory requirements and branch needs. Work on developing program and class offerings. Acts as the key staff person to communicate with members and guests regarding pool activities and offerings. Work with the branch and facilities staff to ensure the pool areas meets YMCA, NYS and county health department rules and regulations. Ensure pool supplies and equipment is adequate and safe. Act as the lifeguard on duty as required. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department. Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Secures and schedules pool facilities. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information. Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manners. Assists with Program Committee meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Strong Commitment and knowledge of Aquatics. Bachelor's degree in related field preferred. One to two year's related experience preferred; for example, as an aquatics coordinator or supervisor. Minimum age 21. Requirements within 30 days of hire include completion of: Child Abuse Prevention; CPR; First Aid; AED; New Employee Orientation. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
