Job Title: Process Technician

Job Description

The Process Technician operates and maintains advanced production equipment to support high‑precision manufacturing of printed circuit boards and related components. This role monitors and adjusts process parameters, performs equipment startups and shutdowns, and ensures product quality through inspection, rework, and continuous process improvement. The position combines hands‑on mechanical work, chemical process control, and collaboration with engineering and production teams in a fast‑paced, highly technical environment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate production equipment safely and efficiently, including performing equipment startups and controlled shutdowns according to standard operating procedures.

  • Continuously monitor manufacturing processes to identify deviations from target parameters and take timely corrective actions.

  • Troubleshoot process and equipment issues, isolating malfunctions and performing mechanical repairs such as disassembly, replacement of bearings, gears, and structural components, and reassembly.

  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on process equipment to maximize reliability and uptime, including calibration of instruments and sensors.

  • Make process adjustments based on chemical analysis, recipe changes, and machine settings to maintain product quality, yield, and throughput.

  • Inspect printed circuit boards (PCBs) for conformance to specifications, identify defects, and perform rework on nonconforming products.

  • Support root cause investigations for process and quality issues, providing detailed observations, data, and feedback to engineering and cross‑functional teams.

  • Read and interpret P&ID diagrams, schematic wiring diagrams, blueprints, and other technical documentation to support troubleshooting and process optimization.

  • Handle and work with flammable, toxic, corrosive, and other hazardous chemicals in accordance with safety procedures and regulatory requirements.

  • Apply lock out tag out (LOTO), job hazard analysis, and hot work permitting practices to maintain a safe working environment.

  • Use production and inventory management systems such as MES/ERP to record production data, track materials, and document work performed.

  • Use computer applications including MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to communicate, document findings, and support reporting and presentations.

  • Train and mentor new production staff on equipment operation, process controls, safety practices, and quality standards.

  • Collaborate closely with other technicians and cross‑functional teams to prioritize tasks, coordinate activities, and support production goals.

  • Adapt to changing priorities, roles, and responsibilities while maintaining organization and attention to detail in a high‑paced environment.

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years of experience working with printed circuit boards (PCBs), engineering laminates, electrochemical processes, and/or microelectronics fabrication, including relevant school projects, clubs, or internships.

  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment or wet laboratory setting.

  • Hands‑on experience with process parameters and engineering units related to temperature, pressure, flow, and power.

  • Ability to read and understand P&ID diagrams and schematic wiring diagrams.

  • Proficiency using computers and MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for communication, documentation, and basic data analysis.

  • Experience with mechanical equipment and systems, including isolating malfunctions, disassembling industrial machinery, and repairing or replacing bearings, gears, and structural components.

  • Experience applying lock out tag out (LOTO), job hazard analysis, and hot work permitting procedures.

  • Experience handling flammable, toxic, corrosive, or otherwise hazardous chemicals safely and in compliance with procedures.

  • Experience using production and inventory management software such as MES and/or ERP systems.

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to work effectively with other technicians and cross‑functional teams.

  • Ability to identify, organize, and maintain priorities across multiple tasks and projects.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight in a high‑paced, challenging production environment and rapidly adapt to changing roles and responsibilities.

  • Current or past certification in IPC-A-600, IPC-6012, or an equivalent PCB inspection standard.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in laboratory or electrochemical processing environments supporting microelectronics or PCB manufacturing.

  • Familiarity with GMP or other structured production quality systems and documentation practices.

  • Ability to interpret blueprints and technical drawings to support equipment setup and troubleshooting.

  • Experience in general labor and machine operation within an industrial or manufacturing facility.

  • Exposure to plating processes, laboratory testing, and calibration activities related to process control.

  • Demonstrated ability to train and support new team members on processes, equipment, and safety practices.

  • Strong problem‑solving mindset with a focus on root cause analysis and continuous improvement.

Work Environment

This role is based in an indoor production facility focused on advanced, high‑precision manufacturing. The work involves operating and maintaining industrial machinery, handling chemicals, and working around space‑grade hardware and process equipment. The environment is fast‑paced and highly technical, requiring strict adherence to safety protocols, including lock out tag out, job hazard analysis, and hot work permitting. The position follows a 12‑hour shift schedule with multiple fixed shifts: A shift runs 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday; B shift runs 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Thursday through Sunday; C shift runs 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday; and D shift runs 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Thursday through Sunday. Technicians regularly use production and inventory management systems, laboratory and plating equipment, calibration tools, and standard office software to perform their duties.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $56000.00 - $1200000.00/yr.
