PACKAGING ENGINEER (STARLINK)
Starlink is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Packaging professional with strong project management skills. In this role, you will be responsible for working with internal and external stakeholders to deliver hardware safely and efficiently through the supply chain to support production operations. As SpaceX scales Starlink Satellite manufacturing, the Packaging Engineer will be responsible for leading the execution of packaging projects from concept through implementation. This role requires technical rigor, cross-functional leadership, and the ability to drive projects that directly impact SpaceX’s mission success.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design, qualify, and implement product packaging solutions that optimize space efficiency, logistics costs, part protection, and efficient material flow
Continuously evaluate new packaging materials, designs, manufacturing processes to ensure alignment with industry best practices
Review engineering drawings and product specifications to understand physical characteristics and handling/safety requirements
Coordinate test fit and in-line trials within the supply base and internal production lines to ensure all stakeholder requirements are met
Develop detailed packaging specifications to ensure solutions are scalable, adopted, and cost-effective
Lead Plan for Every Part (PFEP) initiatives supporting Starlink satellite production
Ensure effective collaboration between design engineering, procurement, production, logistics, and suppliers with respect to new packaging initiatives
Own project timelines and risk management for all packaging initiatives
Support long-term packaging strategy, including reusability initiatives and cost-reduction roadmaps
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in packaging engineering, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, or other engineering discipline
1+ years of experience designing, qualifying, or implementing packaging solutions (internships and project work are applicable)
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
2+ years of experience working in a production environment
Familiarization with various packaging commodities and how they are manufactured, including but not limited to: wood, plastics, metals, and foam materials
Exceptional interpersonal communication skills, technical packaging skills and project management skills
Experience managing packaging or logistics projects in a high-volume manufacturing environment, including returnable packaging and reverse logistics
Experience working in a fast-paced production environment
Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Demonstrated knowledge of high-volume production processes i.e. PPAP, APQP, FAIR
Experience with MRP or ERP systems
Hands-on mechanical troubleshooting
Strong analytical skills with the ability to use data for decision-making and process optimization
Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and comfortable in a fast-moving and dynamic environment
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Able to work extended hours and weekends as needed to support critical project timelines
Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 20% of the time
