Hyatt Director of MICE in BARCELONA, Spain

Description:

At Grand Hyatt Barcelona, one of the city’s most exciting new luxury landmarks, we are looking for an experienced and visionary Director of MICE to lead our Meetings, Incentives, Conferences & Events strategy.

This senior leadership role is responsible for driving all MICE‑related commercial efforts, ensuring flawless event execution, and elevating the hotel’s positioning as a premier destination for world‑class events.

You will collaborate closely with Sales, Events, Banquets, Revenue, and Operations to create unforgettable experiences for our clients while maximizing revenue and market share.

The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, strong commercial leader, and passionate ambassador of luxury hospitality with deep knowledge of the international MICE industry.

Main Responsibilities

MICE Strategy & Business Development

  • Develop and lead the hotel’s global MICE strategy aligned with Hyatt’s commercial priorities.

  • Identify, target, and acquire high‑value MICE business from corporate, association, and incentive clients.

  • Build strong relationships with key accounts, DMCs, agencies, and event organizers.

  • Design and present compelling proposals tailored to client needs and the luxury positioning of Grand Hyatt Barcelona.

  • Represent the hotel at major global trade shows, industry summits, and networking events.

  • Analyze market trends, competitor performance, and emerging opportunities to adjust strategy proactively.

  • Work closely with Revenue and Sales to optimize segmentation, forecasting, pricing, and profitability.

Event Planning & Operational Excellence

  • Oversee the entire MICE pipeline from initial inquiry through post‑event review.

  • Ensure flawless event execution in partnership with Banquets, Culinary, Events, AV/IT, and Operations teams.

  • Approve and supervise Banquet Event Orders (BEOs), ensuring accuracy and alignment with brand standards.

  • Elevate the event experience by integrating innovation, personalization, and attention to detail.

  • Implement service excellence standards and support the delivery of unique, memorable client experiences.

Client Relationship Management

  • Act as the main point of contact for top‑tier MICE clients and high‑stakes events.

  • Conduct professional site inspections, planning meetings, and client entertainment to strengthen partnerships.

  • Ensure consistent and proactive communication with key stakeholders.

  • Monitor production trends and implement strategies to increase client loyalty and share of wallet.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire the MICE and Events-related teams to achieve excellence and exceed goals.

  • Set clear objectives, provide regular coaching, and drive continuous improvement.

  • Promote a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability across all event functions.

  • Implement training programs and ensure alignment with Hyatt standards and service philosophy.

  • Work closely with Sales leadership to ensure team performance supports commercial targets.

Financial & Strategic Responsibilities

  • Lead the MICE contribution to the annual commercial budget and marketing plan.

  • Manage revenue forecasts for the MICE segment with accuracy and strategic insight.

  • Monitor departmental expenses, ensuring cost control and compliance with Hyatt policies.

  • Participate in business review meetings, presenting performance results, insights, and action plans.

  • Develop and implement corrective strategies to increase market penetration and revenue when targets are not achieved.

Qualifications:

Experience

  • Minimum 7–10 years in luxury hospitality MICE or Events leadership roles, with proven success in driving revenue and leading teams.

Languages

  • Fluent English and Spanish required.

  • Additional languages are a strong advantage.

Expertise

  • Deep knowledge of the international MICE market, key industry players, and current trends.

  • Strong background in strategic business development and high‑level negotiations.

  • Proven ability to lead complex, multi‑department projects and large‑scale events.

  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and relationship‑building skills.

  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to develop data‑driven strategies.

  • Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and solutions‑focused.

Technology

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

  • Knowledge of Opera PMS, Envision, and sales/event management platforms is an advantage.

Education

  • Degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, Events Management, or a related field.
