Introduction

At IBM CIO, we are building a robust, multi-tenant platform on OpenShift that will empower internal developers and application teams across the organization. As part of this effort, we are seeking an experienced software engineer to join our platform engineering team. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in building scalable, multi-tenant PaaS solutions using modern technologies such as Golang, React.js, and OpenShift-based platforms.

You will be responsible for providing technical expertise, designing and developing the microservices that power the platform as well as the user experience thru unified developer portal, ensuring it's capable of supporting a diverse range of users and applications. In addition to building the core platform and delivering the experience, you'll collaborate closely with SRE teams and other infrastructure specialists to deliver a seamless multi-tenant experience.

Your role and responsibilities

• Contribute in the design and development of scalable, multi-tenant microservices that power the platform.

• Implement platform solutions under the guidance of senior engineers, ensuring high performance, security, and maintainability.

• Collaborate with peer teams, e.g., SRE, to ensure the platform is highly available and optimized for cost and resource usage.

• Work closely with senior engineers to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to platform performance, security, and scalability.

• Collaborate with internal users (developers, technical owners, security specialists) to understand their needs and contribute to delivering tailored solutions.

• Support the definition and maintenance of platform standards, including code quality, testing, and security.

• Contribute to the development and enhancement of the developer portal, focusing on features that improve the overall developer experience.

• Drive platform improvements by implementing feedback from users and performance metrics under the direction of senior engineers.

• Participate in on-call rotations to assist in providing support for production issues when needed.

• Stay informed about industry trends, new technologies, and best practices to continually develop your skills and contribute to platform evolution.

Required technical and professional expertise

• 5+ years of experience in software development, with exposure to platform engineering and microservice architectures.

• Proficiency in Golang and JavaScript (React.js) for developing full-stack solutions.

• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, OpenShift, or other container orchestration platforms.

• Understanding of multi-tenant system design and architecture.

• Familiarity with cloud-native development, CI/CD pipelines, and automation.

• Experience in designing and implementing APIs and microservices.

• Basic understanding of security best practices for platform development and management.

• Exposure to at least one public cloud provider (AWS, GCP, or Azure).

• Experience working within a team and contributing to a collaborative environment.

• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to learn from more senior engineers when tackling complex technical challenges.

• Familiarity with service mesh technologies (e.g., Istio, Linkerd) and distributed tracing is a plus.

• Good communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally with teams like Infrastructure, SRE, security, and application owners.

Preferred technical and professional experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Exposure to extending Kubernetes/OpenShift, such as contributing to custom Operators or Kubernetes-native solutions.

• Experience working in a team environment within an enterprise setting.

• Understanding of IBM cloud infrastructure is a plus.

• Interest or prior experience contributing to a developer portal.

• Familiarity with monitoring, logging, and observability tools.
