Role Purpose
The Senior Project Engineer provides advanced engineering leadership for the Connected Worker & Autonomous Operations portfolio. The role focuses on solving complex operational challenges by delivering real-time insights, digital workflows, and connected technologies that improve safety, productivity, and decision-making for Operations & Maintenance (O&M) and engineering teams.
This role leads early-stage innovation through problem definition, solution scoping, business value estimation, and technology maturation, transitioning validated pilots to Technology Deployment Engineers for large-scale, multi-site production deployments .
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Innovation Leadership
Solve complex technical and operational problems by integrating:
Connected Worker platforms
IIoTand edge technologies
Digital Twin and Digital Core capabilities
OT and IT platforms
Partner closely with Digital Twin, Digital Core,IIoT, OT, IT Platforms, external vendors, and business stakeholders.
Lead R&D initiatives from concept through pilot execution.
Define technical architectures, integration patterns, and non-functional requirements (scalability, availability, cybersecurity).
Mature technologies through proof of concept and pilot stages.
Project & Program Management
Act as technical project manager / delivery lead for complex digital andIIoTinitiatives, owning scope, schedule, cost, and quality.
Develop and manage integrated project plans, milestones, dependencies, and risk registers for multi-stream work programs.
Coordinate cross-functional teams including engineering, IT, OT, cybersecurity, operations, vendors, and system integrators.
Drive governance routines such as design reviews, steering updates, risk escalations, and decision tracking.
Manage vendor delivery, contracts, and performance against agreed SLAs and outcomes.
Large-Scale Deployment & Rollout
Lead transition from pilot to large-scale, multi-site production deployment , ensuring repeatability and standardization.
Define deployment strategies, rollout waves, site readiness criteria, and cutover plans.
Support handover to Technology Deployment Engineers with complete technical, operational, and support documentation.
Provide early-life support duringhypercareand stabilization phases post go-live.
Ensure solutions are production-ready, scalable, and supportable across multiple assets and geographies.
Business & Stakeholder Engagement
Develop business cases including value estimation, risk reduction, and operational impact.
Align deployments with business priorities, change management needs, and user adoption strategies.
Communicate effectively with senior stakeholders on progress, risks, and value realization.
Compliance & Standards
Ensure solutions align with cybersecurity, data, safety, and enterprise engineering standards.
Identifyand scope opportunities for autonomy, robotics, and remote operations aligned with FOF goals.
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical discipline.
10+ years of industry experience in operations, digital, OT,IIoT, or engineering environments, including field instruments, control systems (PLC, DCS, SCADA), interfaces, and industrial communication protocols.
Project & Delivery Experience
Proven experience acting as Project Manager or Technical Delivery Lead for medium to large-scale industrial digital programs.
Demonstrated success delivering enterprise or multi-site deployments , moving solutions from pilot to production scale.
Experience managing budgets, schedules, risks, and vendor deliverables in complex programs.
Familiarity with project management methodologies (Agile, Hybrid, or Waterfall) in industrial or OT environments.
Technical & Domain Skills
Strong understanding of industrial operations and O&M workflows.
Experience with plant operations, mobility solutions, or digital field tools.
Experience with Digital Twin, advanced analytics, or real-time operational systems.
Exposure to upstream, downstream, or complex industrial facilities.
Familiarity with AI-enabled control, optimization, or predictive systems.
Leadership & Communication
Proven ability to lead cross-functional technical initiatives.
Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, including articulation of platforms, architectures, and design decisions.
Experience working with external technology partners and vendors.
Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, supporting business requirements across the world. Accordingly, the work hours for employees will be aligned to support business requirements. The standard work week will be Monday to Friday. Working hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm or 1.30pm to 10.30pm.
