Job Objective:
CDM Smith is hiring a Senior Enterprise GIS System Specialist for the Digital Engineering Solutions – Geospatial Technology group. The role focuses on enterprise level GIS system architecture, administration, optimization, and integration, supporting business and engineering workflows through scalable, secure, and high performance geospatial platforms. The position requires strong hands on experience with the ESRI enterprise stack.
With high-level goals provided, leads teams to implement moderate to highly complex GIS and technology solutions that support both internal and external clients.
Performs work related to the design, development, and implementation of advanced GIS solutions, technology environments, and applications. Supports technology planning and system architecture design, geospatial application configuration, and integration of GIS with 3rd party environments, such as asset management.
Works with junior staff to support GIS data development and system implementation activities.
Performs GIS and Information Management consulting activities and supports implementation of high-end
environments.
Duties and Responsibilities
• GIS Analysis and Consulting
• With high-level goals provided, leads teams to implement moderate to highly complex GIS and technology solutions that support both internal and external clients.
• This includes implementation of GIS technology solutions, as well as complementary systems including business analytics, maintenance and asset management, and modeling environments. Develops appropriate system architectures and leads key implementation tasks. Support business process modeling and technology evaluation.
Business Development and Strategy
• Supports proposal development activities including developing scope, schedule, and budgets for related tasks. Partakes in red team reviews and interview preparation/execution. Becomes a technical leader in key areas.
Technical Guidance
• Provides technical guidance and training to junior staff. Mentors junior staff and develops them for future growth within the discipline and firm. Supervises the work of junior staff on project work.
Database Design and Implementation
• Conceptualizes and designs databases and technology
environments of high complexity including designs that incorporate spatial data and integrate with 3rd party applications. This includes the design of enterprise geodatabase environments on multiple servers. Leads business process modeling related to GIS database
design.
• System Architecture Design
• Supports the development of GIS-based system architecture plans including development of recommendations for GIS, hardware, software, geodatabase design, and enterprise geodatabase
implementation. These include complex system architectures that integrate GIS with 3rd party applications, such as modeling software
or CMMS.
• Advanced Spatial Analysis:
Designs and develops methods and processes for solving complex geospatial problems. This may include the use of advanced data analysis, machine learning and modeling techniques and directing junior staff in the execution of advanced spatial analysis.
Technical Luminescence
• Attends conferences, symposia, etc. to improve the visibility of the firm's products and services in collaboration with applicable sales staff with group approval.
• Performs other duties as required.
• Technical Knowledge Management (TKM)
• Contributes to firm's TKM by assisting in the development of white papers and technical design documentation of new or special case designs, studies, etc. Submits technical papers and designs for publishing to technical journals with approval and review.
The following high-level skills are required for this role.
• Deep expertise in enterprise GIS architecture, administration, and integration, primarily using ESRI technologies such as ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, Portal for ArcGIS ,and ArcGIS Pro
• Strong experience designing, deploying, and maintaining scalable, secure, high performance GIS infrastructure aligned with enterprise IT standards
• Proven background in enterprise GIS system administration, including user management, licensing, geodatabases, and system performance optimization
• Hands-on expertise in spatial data lifecycle management, data standards, metadata, and governance frameworks
• Ability to integrate GIS with enterprise systems such as CMMS, ERP, and asset management platforms
• Strong skills in automation and workflow optimization using Python, ArcPy, and ETL tools
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, translating complex GIS concepts for business audiences
• Advanced experience in geospatial analytics, dashboards, visualization, and exploration of AI/ML use cases.

Minimum Qualifications:
7+ years of GIS experience, including at least 2 years in enterprise-level GIS administration, with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent education.
Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Certified GIS Professional (GISP) status, a Master’s degree in one of the fields listed above or has certification in another field (e.g., Professional Engineer’s license).
The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
Domestic and/or international travel may be required
Preferred Qualifications:
Skills and Abilities
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office software suite including Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. Familiar with Microsoft SQL Server Software.
• Expert knowledge of Esri ArcGIS 10.x and extensions, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise (ArcSDE), GPS technology, UML Tools, model builder, Python for ArcGIS, and related geospatial software tools.
• Advanced knowledge of specialty applications, such as PhotoShop, Business Analytics software, CMMS, modeling, customer billing, or specialized programming environments.
