Your role and responsibilities

We are seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a strategic transformation initiative focused on hybrid‑cloud adoption, AI‑enabled engineering, and z/OS tool migration. As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will guide high‑performing engineering teams, drive technical strategy, and partner closely with stakeholders across architecture, product, and executive leadership to deliver secure, scalable, and business‑impacting solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of complex, high‑value engineering initiatives using Agile or hybrid methodologies, ensuring alignment with IBM’s quality and security standards.

  • Drive modernization across hybrid cloud, mainframe (z/OS) tool migration, DevOps automation, and AI‑driven engineering practices to accelerate innovation.

  • Shape and present technical architecture, migration strategies, cloud integration patterns, and industry trends to both engineering and executive audiences.

  • Provide strategic direction on the adoption of AI and Agentic AI technologies, guiding engineering teams in designing and delivering Agentic solutions.

  • Serve as a strategic bridge between engineering teams and senior leadership, translating technical insights into clear, actionable direction.

  • Introduce and operationalize new engineering capabilities including cloud optimization, infrastructure automation, observability, and AI‑enabled solutions.

  • Evaluate emerging technologies, platforms, and vendor solutions; lead PoCs and informed technology assessments to guide adoption.

  • Establish and uphold engineering governance covering security, compliance, coding standards, DevOps practices, and automation frameworks.

  • Champion continuous improvement through enhanced tooling, productivity initiatives, platform simplification, and automation‑first engineering.

  • Build and maintain strong partnerships across cross‑functional groups, supporting decision‑making, alignment, and effective execution.

  • Mentor and develop engineering talent, fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and high‑performance team culture.

  • Track and analyze competitive, cloud, and AI trends to inform long‑term transformation roadmaps and migration strategies.

Required technical and professional expertise

  • 10-15 years of experience delivering complex software or platform engineering initiatives at enterprise scale.

  • 5-6 years of engineering management experience leading hybrid cloud, AI, or modernization programs.

  • Experience leading a team of 20+ engineers, with reporting into a Director‑level leader.

  • Deep understanding of hybrid cloud environments (IBM Cloud, AWS, Azure) and cloud optimization approaches.

  • Experience with AI frameworks, ML lifecycle concepts, data governance, and modern AI adoption patterns.

  • Proven ability to communicate technical concepts to executives, business stakeholders, and cross‑discipline teams.

  • Strong background in engineering governance, secure development practices, and technology compliance.

Preferred technical and professional experience

  • Exposure to z/OS (Mainframe) development, tooling, integration, or migration initiatives.

  • Hands-on knowledge of Java, Python, microservices, distributed systems, or cloud‑native patterns.

  • Experience with DevOps, CI/CD, automation tooling, and Infrastructure‑as‑Code (Terraform, Ansible, etc.).

  • Certifications such as PMP, ITIL, Scrum Master, AWS/Azure Architect, or relevant IBM Cloud certifications.

  • Experience with data analytics, ML model operationalization, and AI‑enabled engineering workflows.

  • Experience with vendor engagement, tooling assessments, and contract negotiations.
