The Opportunity
Marvell is looking for an exceptional Director, Assistant General Counsel who will be responsible for providing legal services for Marvell’s India operation. Marvell has over 7,000 employees worldwide and over 1,500 employees at its India locations in Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Pune. This role will play a significant role in supporting growing India operations and enabling the business by identifying and managing legal, compliance, regulatory, and reputational risks as well as supporting the government relations function. This role will provide legal support and advice on a variety of commercial, employment, data privacy, intellectual property, and regulatory issues for Marvell’s operations in India. It will include drafting policies and legal documents, negotiation and dispute resolution. This role will also be responsible for local government relations aligned with Marvell’s strategic business objectives. You will work within a dynamic global Legal team and report to Vice President, Deputy General Counsel located at Marvell’s headquarters in Santa Clara, CA, USA. This position will be based in Marvell’s Bangalore office.
What You Can Expect
Primary legal advisor to senior management and business teams within Marvell’s India operations
Provide proactive and business-aligned legal advice on a wide-variety of legal issues including commercial, employment, data privacy, intellectual property, and regulatory affairs
Support strategic engagement with regulatory and government bodies
Cultivate and maintain relationships with elected officials, policymakers, regulatory agencies, trade associations, and industry coalitions.
Represent Marvell in strategic government meetings.
Prepare executive-level reports and presentations on government relations activities and outcomes.
Negotiate, prepare, and revise all relevant legal documents, including commercial agreements, employment, regulatory, and insurance
Conduct and oversee internal factual investigations
Review and provide legal guidance on disciplinary processes
Manage claims and litigation, negotiate resolutions to disputes
Collaborate with and manage outside litigation counsel
Collaboratively work with cross-functional stakeholders to drive matters to completion
Continuously evaluate and improve internal policies and processes in line with global company standards
Contribute to the design and delivery of training courses on legal topics relevant to the business
Handle and support applications for necessary licenses, permits, and approvals
Manage, mentor and support local team
Perform risk assessments to proactively manage risks
Monitor new laws and regulations relating to the company’s business operation and proactively advise the business on potential implications
Advise and support the country manager on special legal projects and strategic initiatives
What We're Looking For
Bachelor’s degree in law from top tier law school (LL.B. or equivalent)
Current India bar admission in good standing
10+ years of legal work experience, including in top tier law firm and in house (technology company experience strongly preferred)
Expertise in India’s laws and regulations, including commercial and contract law, employment, corporate, IP
Legal advisory experience with multinational companies preferred
Proven track record of building strong relationships of trust with internal clients and stakeholders, cross-functionally and at all levels
Experience conducting and/or advising on internal workplace investigations
Ability to work individually and as part of a team in a cross-cultural environment and manage international time zones
Able to manage pressure and resolve conflicts with diplomacy and professionalism
Accountable and proactive self-starter, comfortable working independently
Business-savvy, practical business acumen, proven track record of driving pragmatic results
Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects at once
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in the English language
Experience drafting demand letters, discovery, litigation briefing, and settlement agreements preferred
Experience in fast-paced and dynamic organization and demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities
Highly approachable, collegial, and collaborative team player
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
Strategic and able to see the “big picture”-the end-to-end connection points across company and business strategy
Strong knowledge of corporate, employment, and commercial laws in India
Strong legal writing and analytical skills
Willingness and ability to travel within country and internationally for business purposes
