Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Senior Engineer / Project Manager – Elevator Maintenance & Replacement (Transit) to join our transit and infrastructure practice. This role will support a large, active transit system and will focus on overseeing elevator maintenance and repair operations while serving as the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) lead for an upcoming elevator replacement program.

The position requires a senior-level professional with deep experience in vertical transportation systems, contract management, and transit operations. The successful candidate will ensure service continuity, rider safety, and effective coordination between operations, maintenance, capital delivery teams, and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Contract Oversight & Performance Management

  • Provide day-to-day management and oversight of a large-scale elevator maintenance and repair contract across multiple transit facilities.

  • Monitor and optimize contractor performance, response times, safety, and quality through proactive contract administration and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Develop, implement, and refine processes to improve:

  • Communication and notification protocols

  • Outage reporting, tracking, and escalation

  • Coordination between contractors, operations staff, and customer communications teams

  • Establish, track, and analyze Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) including:

  • Asset availability and reliability

  • Response and repair times

  • Preventive maintenance compliance

  • Safety and quality outcomes

  • Lead regular performance reviews with contractors and develop corrective action plans as needed.

Operations & Maintenance Lead – Capital Projects

  • Serve as the primary O&M representative for the elevator replacement program.

  • Ensure operational, maintenance, safety, and customer impacts are fully incorporated into project planning and execution.

  • Coordinate O&M support during:

  • Planned and emergency outages

  • Construction and installation activities

  • Testing, commissioning, turnover, and asset acceptance

  • Support development of outage management strategies that balance constructability, safety, service reliability, and rider impact.

  • Provide maintenance input on equipment design, access, maintainability, spare parts, and lifecycle considerations.

Communication & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Act as a liaison among operations, maintenance, capital delivery, customer communications, and accessibility teams.

  • Coordinate and support messaging related to scheduled outages, service disruptions, and restoration timelines.

  • Represent O&M interests to internal leadership, project teams, and external partners.

  • Support outreach activities to riders and affected stakeholders, ensuring accessibility and customer needs are addressed during service impacts.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements;

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline and 10 years of related experience in transit systems, vertical transportation, infrastructure operations, and/or capital project delivery or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Demonstrated experience managing outsourced maintenance contracts in a regulated, safety-critical environment.

  • Experience in elevator systems, asset management, reliability-centered maintenance, and lifecycle planning.

  • Experience and ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and organizations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.

  • 15 years of related experience in transit systems, vertical transportation, infrastructure operations, and/or capital project delivery

  • Experience supporting elevator modernization or replacement programs in active transit environments.

  • Analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Additional Information

  • Relocation is an option for this position.

  • This position may require work in active transit environments and coordination during off-hours outages or construction activities.

  • Travel to project sites may be required.

Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $180000 to $200000.
