Job Title: Lead Building Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Lead Building Engineer / Chief Engineer to oversee the maintenance and operations of high-rise building systems. The successful candidate will ensure that all work meets established standards for quality, productivity, and safety, while staying within budget. This is a working supervisor position. This individual is expected to be hands on with building maintenance and repair, system diagnostics and troubleshooting, training technicians, and overseeing vendors.
Responsibilities
Troubleshoot, maintain, and control extensive building systems (HVAC, mechanical, and electrical).
Monitor and operate central utility plant equipment and rooftop equipment (boilers, chillers, cooling towers, air handlers).
Ensure work is performed following established procedures for quality and productivity.
Review and approve work orders, evaluate subcontractors, and create preventative maintenance plans.
Conduct QA/QC inspections for all building systems and ensure effective communication and coordination.
Supervise Building Technicians, handle recruiting, supervision, recognition, disciplinary actions, and performance appraisals.
Develop, evaluate, and train assigned staff to ensure high skill levels and technical competence.
Perform duties of a Building Technician IV as needed and provide operating and capital expenditure recommendations.
Perform 24-hour on-call duties, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Lead emergency response activities and manage the on-call/shift schedule for technicians.
Participate in the design and construction of new facilities and fit-outs.
Possess extensive knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, mechanical, and electrical.
Demonstrate proficiency in automation systems such as BMS/BAS, SCADA, fire alarms, and more.
Read and interpret trade-related building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing drawings.
Implement OSHA requirements for technical staff and vendors.
Maintain customer interface, capable of explaining technical issues to varied audiences.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Maryland HVAC or Electrical Journeyman license OR Maryland 1st Grade Stationary Engineer License.
High school diploma or equivalent, with additional vocational coursework in HVAC, electricity, plumbing, or related fields.
Universal CFC certification.
Minimum of 10 years of commercial building experience.
In-depth knowledge of high-rise maintenance, plumbing, electrical systems, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance.
Possess a valid driver's license and the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
Work Environment
Work in a high-rise building alongside a team of 10 technicians. You will engage in a collaborative environment with shifts managed among techs 3-4.
The core work hours will be morning shift, but the Lead Building Engineer must be available for after-hours building maintenance emergencies.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Baltimore, MD.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $60.00/hr.
