Automotive Locksmith Apprentice - Entry-Level (InStore Position)

Advanced Security Safe and Lock, a respected family-owned locksmith company, is seeking a motivated Automotive Locksmith Apprentice to join our instore team. This is a hands-on, entry-level locksmith opportunity designed for mechanically inclined individuals or those with an automotive background who want to start a long-term career in the locksmith industry.
About the Position
This is an in-store role where you will assist with walk-in customers, automotive key services, lock repairs, and shop maintenance. All initial training will be conducted at our Reisterstown Rd location. After training, you will work primarily from our York Rd shop in Timonium.
This role is ideal for someone who is dependable, detail-oriented, enjoys problem-solving, and wants to learn a specialized trade in automotive key cutting and programming.
What Youll Do
- Assist senior technicians with in-store locksmith services
- Learn to:
- Cut automotive keys
- Program transponder keys and key fobs
- Repair or replace ignitions
- Rekey locks and perform basic lock repairs
- Help customers at the front counter with key duplication and service questions
- Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean, organized shop environment
- Provide friendly, professional customer service throughout the workday
Preferred Background and Qualities
- Mechanical aptitude or automotive/mechanic experience (preferred)
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn a skilled trade
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently or with a team
- Reliable, punctual, and customer-focused
- Basic technical or mechanical skills
- Valid drivers license and clean driving record (preferred)
Tools and Training Youll Learn to Use
We will train you to use locksmith tools and machinery, such as:
- Automotive key cutting machines (automatic, semi-automatic, code cutters)
- Key programming tools
- Bench tools (grinders, drills, sanders)
- Hand tools used in lock repair and ignition service
- Basic diagnostic equipment for automotive keys and ignitions
No previous locksmith experience is required we provide full, hands-on training.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift/push 50 lbs or more
- Ability to kneel, crouch, stoop, and use hands for detailed manual work
- Must be able to work indoors/outdoors with varying temperatures
- Must communicate part/tool needs to management
- Basic computer skills (email, POS/register, simple software)

Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
- 2+ years of automotive/mechanic experience (preferred for automotive-focused applicants)
- Valid drivers license (required)
- Strong communication and customer service skills
