The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), Office of Sponsored Projects Accounting and Compliance (SPAC)is currently seeking anAnalyst, Sponsored Projects Accounting. This is a Contractual (Remote) Position for approximately 6 months. UMB is a public university and constituent institution of the University System of Maryland.* All employees are expected to work primarily physically within the State of Maryland.* /The ideal candidate will personally connect with the Administration and Finance Guiding Principles which closely mirror UMB’s core values: Respect and Integrity, Well-Being and Sustainability, Equity and Justice, and Innovation and Discovery./ Primary Duties: * Performs, reviews, and analyzes sponsored projects accounting and compliance ensuring completeness, internal accuracy, and conformance with uniform generally accepted accounting practices (GAAP). * Maintains performance compliance with university policies and procedures regarding internal, business, fiscal, and operational accountability and compliance. Review accounting entries for compliance with applicable grant and contract terms, regulations, policies and procedures and conformance with uniform generally accepted accounting practices (GAAP). Identifies and investigates compliance deficiencies. Conduct budget, financial, and/or fiscal reviews and make recommendations. * Reviews financial data for accuracy and clarity. Collaborate with management and internal/external partners to support University goals and objectives. * Administers and maintain assigned accounts to verify accuracy of transactions and uniform application of policies, procedures, and acceptable standards. * Examines and ensure integrity/reliability of the financial accounting system. Work with principal investigators, faculty, or staff members to identify potential ledger discrepancies between financial system and SPAC records, providing statistical information to isolate these areas and recommending new procedures to prevent deviations or undesirable accounting trends. * Understand and administers contract, grant and cooperative agreement terms and conditions, as well as other administrative rules, cost principles, and regulations under OMB' Uniform Guidance, the FAR and the NIH Grants Policy Statement. Receives, analyzes, and prepares various internal/external financial ledgers, schedules, exhibits, and summaries along with any assigned databases utilized for financial reporting. * Evaluates financial scope and objectives. Perform testing to accomplish reviews and special projects. Assisting campus SPACs to correct identified deficiencies as needed. * Adheres to unit and project activities under prescribed schedule. * Utilizes quantitative and qualitative approaches to develop financial forecast performance. * Conducts budget, financial, and fiscal reviews. * Assists in coordination of responses to internal or external agencies, including site visits, desk reviews, and audits. * Support management with special projects and workflow process improvements. * Performs other duties as assigned. Specific duties and responsibilities may vary based upon departmental needs. Education:Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration. Experience:Two (2) years of financial or management accounting, budgeting, auditing, assessment of internal controls, financial analysis, post-award accounting or lifecycle research administration experience OR One (1) year of direct sponsored projects accounting. Higher education experience preferred. Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of position requirements. Knowledge of all applicable requirements, regulations and laws. Skill in effective use of applicable technology/systems. Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas and facts. Ability to work cooperatively with others and independently.
