The Financial Accounting department at CareFirst manages day to day functions of the accounting cycle including account reconciliations, journal entries, account research and analysis, and the month end account close process.
This is a year-round internship. The ideal candidate is someone who can commit to work throughout the year (Spring/Fall - minimum 15-20 hours per week and 30-40 hours per week in the Summer). The anticipated start date for our Summer cohort will be in late May or early June 2026.
Principal Accountabilities:
Assist with monthly journal entry preparation by specified deadlines.
Assist with monthly balance sheet reconciliations by specified deadlines.
Assist with any other day-to-day tasks as assigned.
This internship will provide an opportunity to work in a professional environment and participate in a variety of functions to obtain firsthand experience relative to most organizations.
Qualifications Required:
This position requires an individual working towards a Bachelors or Masters degree in an accredited college or university. We are looking for students seeking degrees in Accounting with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.

Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to positively interface with and establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal staff and external clients.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task and reprioritize work, as necessary.
An independent means of transportation. Local travel may be necessary.
Must have strong skills with Microsoft Excel (Intermediate/Advanced Level).
Salary Range: $18,720 - $26,000

The hire range posted is an annual rate. All intern positions will be paid hourly.
