Dignity Health Pharmacy Operations Coordinator in Bakersfield, California

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Pharmacy Operations Coordinator, you will perform a variety of tasks in support of the timely and accurate monitoring and purchase of pharmacy supplies and equipment.

Every day you will maintain established inventory levels according to CSH standards and procedures, receive and stock medications and supplies, and coordinate the acquisition of IV therapy solutions and related supplies for inpatient pharmacy. You will serve as the hospital's subject matter expert for the automated medication distribution system, manage controlled substance inventory, monitor usage, investigate discrepancies, and act as a liaison between automated dispensing cabinets and Nursing for problem resolution.

To be successful in this role, you will meticulously manage pharmacy inventory and automation systems, ensure accurate controlled substance handling, provide essential training and support, and contribute to the leadership team to maintain efficient and compliant pharmacy operations.

  • Maintains and monitors site specific inventory of all medications, pharmaceutical supplies, and IV solutions and supplies utilized by pharmacy personnel and ensures appropriate inventory levels are maintained for effective operation of the hospital.

  • Initiates all department non-pharmaceutical ordering via non-stock requisitions including follow-up on all items.

  • Coordinates the procurement of all pharmacy medications, I.V. solutions, supplies and special order items via the pharmacy purchasing system(s) for the assigned hospital.

  • Identifies and coordinates the procurement of emergency supplies involving suppliers and transportation of such merchandise; minimizes the need for emergency purchases through close coordination with assigned hospital pharmacy staff and vendors.

  • Monitors the movement of stock to minimize waste and collaborates with other sites to initiate sales.

  • Serves as a pharmacy administrator and subject matter expert for the hospital’s automated medication distribution system. Responsible for controlled substance inventory, may monitor usage, investigate and follow-up on discrepancies and serve as liaison between Pyxis and Nursing for problem resolution.

  • Oversees and troubleshoots the Automated Dispensing Cabinet (ADC) console; communicates changes to Pharmacy staff; serves as a liaison between ADC and Pharmacy; monitors ADC security by reviewing staff update lists; trains staff on system changes and upgrades; notifies Operations Manager/Director or vendor of system issues.

  • Reviews and follows-up on defined reports associated with ADC and the CII safe; maintains DEA 222 forms and the CSOS ordering and report requirements.

  • Initiates monthly QA monitoring and report requirements to include 797, temperature tracking monitoring and compliance; produces QA discrepancy reports; maintains storage records.

  • Coordinates the purchasing of all controlled substances; monitors product changes and back orders; updates CII safe contract numbers; may participate in the investigative process when diversion is identified.

  • Performs all routine functions such as loading, refilling, removing, outdating, barcode scanning, and inventorying medications and runs reports for automated dispensing cabinets.

  • Performs all routine functions for the carousel system, including adding, removing, inventorying and outdating medications.

  • Investigates and seeks resolution to identify controlled substance discrepancies as delegated by Manager/Director.

  • Assists in implementing new procedures, processes, forms, tools and/or system changes or applications and participates in the coordination of daily operations.

  • Coordinates and/or provides orientation and training to current or new employees; may coordinate and participate in the evaluation of technician students during externship.

  • Monitors work flow, prepares work schedules and reviews work to ensure it meets quality and productivity standards. Elevates identified issues to higher level authority.

  • Coaches employees on procedure and protocols; may provide input into formal employee performance evaluations.

  • Implements new procedures or processes; explains new and/or revised procedures, forms or other tools to staff; demonstrates new systems, PC applications, equipment or supplies.

  • Assists employees with complex/unprecedented/ambiguous matters, reviews elevated issues/situations and takes action as assigned by higher level authority.

Job Requirements

Required

  • High School GED or equivalent, upon hire or

  • Two years of recent pharmacy experience or equivalent

  • Pharmacy Technician: CA, upon hire and

  • Certified Pharmacy Tech, upon hire

Preferred

  • Certified Pharmacy Tech ECPT, upon hire or

  • Certified Pharmacy Tech PTCB, upon hire or

Pay Range

$30.91 - $45.98 /hour
