Eastern Plains Economic Development Corporation Food & Ag Development Specialist in Baker, Montana
Must live within 5 county region (Carter, Dawson, Fallon, Prairie or Wibaux) but will be required to work out of the Baker or Glendive office.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Professional experience implementing specific project goals and objectives
- Demonstrated competency in persuasive writing, team collaboration, effective verbal and written communication, and attention to detail
- Skilled in coordinating large, complex projects, meeting deadlines, and working effectively under pressure
- The ability to prepare written reports to funding partners and present summaries of collaboration
- Competency in the development and tracking of budgets and understanding financial statements
- Experience with public speaking and group facilitation
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Excel and Word) is necessary; ability to learn client management software
- Must be willing and able to travel throughout the EPEDC 5 county service region
- Some overnight and state/national travel may be necessary
- The position requires the ability to communicate with the public, co-workers, and stakeholder groups on a regular basis
- Must be self-motivated and willing to work creatively and independently
- Administrative and project management experience
- Prefer working knowledge of State, Federal and private capitalization programs
- Prefer knowledge of Montana agriculture, value-added processes, and economic development
- Some travel is required within the 5-county EPEDC service area
- Occasional travel outside the region, including overnight travel to attend meetings, workshops and training seminars, is also required
- Set work schedule, with occasional evening hours
- Position requires the ability to communicate with the public, co-workers, and stakeholder groups on a regular basis
- May need to sit at a desk, at meetings, and in vehicles for long periods of time
- Must be able to stand and walk short distances, stoop and bend, handle and lift books, papers, and office equipment up to 50 pounds
- Maintain a valid driver's license, use of a personal vehicle may be required with appropriate mileage reimbursement
DUTIES:
- Responsible for facilitating Food and Agriculture Business Development that contributes to the success and diversity of the agriculture industry in eastern Montana Reports directly to the EPEDC Executive Director and works closely with the Eastern Montana Food and Ag Development Center (FADC) Director with Great Northern Development Corporation (GNDC)
- Work closely with the FADC Director and Miles City Community College SBDC to provide one-on-one counseling with producers, manufacturers, or producer groups
- Assist producers in developing business, marketing, and financial plans for start-up and expansion of value-added productions, specialty crop production, and agriculture operations
- Conduct networking and outreach activities to promote the FADC and encourage more value added agriculture and food production in eastern Montana
- Assist the FADC Director in planning and executing in-person and webinar format workshops and training opportunities for clients/pre-clients within the service region
- Work closely with the FADC Director to market the center, workshops, training, and funding opportunities via social media, newsletters, website radio, and print materials
- Travel to meet with clients, and potential clients, conduct workshops and training, and meet with potential stakeholders and partners
- Plan, analyze, and implement strategies to promote economic development in eastern Montana
- Assist producers by developing infrastructure for small-scale food processing, food-business incubation using locally grown products
- Implementation of the goals and objectives of the Food and Agriculture Development Center
- Assist the FADC Director in completing reports for the Department of Ag
- Perform other duties as necessary or assigned b the Executive Director
Part-time position with the option of a full-time position with benefit package, including health insurance stipend and contribution to retirement program, if combined with the Community Development Specialist position.
Starting pay is between $17.00 - $19.91 per hour, depending on experience.
