National Park Service Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor in Baker, California
Summary This position is located in Mojave National Preserve, in the Facilities Management Division. Government housing is not available. More information about the position and the park may be obtained by contacting Jessica Carson, Administrative Officer, Mojave National Preserve at jessica_carson@nps.gov Responsibilities Major Duties: Responsible for supervising positions performing buildings and utility maintenance and construction work throughout Mojave National Preserve. Provides guidance, inspects and works in the completion of maintenance and repair of assets, including painting, roofing & carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work. Utilizes Facility Management and computer software tools to plan and track operation and maintenance projects. Serves as Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) and/or inspector on contracts, as directed by the supervisor. Maintains certification. You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use. You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You may be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. You must possess and maintain or be able to obtain (within one year of entrance on duty) and maintain a current California Class A Commercial Driver's License. You must be able to obtain/maintain a Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) Certificate within 1 year/12 months of entrance on duty or as soon as appropriate training is available. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to a few nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority. You will be required to complete a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450 on an annual basis. Additional Requirements located under qualifications Qualifications Requirements Continued... Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program. As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period or 2-year trial period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated. This probationary or trial period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service. A Relocation Incentive May Be Authorized for a Federal employee when the employee must move, as directed by the National Park Service (NPS) either through a management directed reassignment or selection for employment, to a different location at least 50 miles away from the one where his/her position of record held at time of selection is currently located, due to a need of the NPS. A relocation incentive is not the same as a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move and, as such, may be granted in conjunction with one another. Physical Demands: The incumbent must be able to lift, push, carry a variety of tools and equipment; must be able to handle 100-pound sacks of cement and other heavy loads. Does considerable walking, standing, bending, kneeling, stretching, climbing, crawling, and working in confined spaces and tiring positions. Working Conditions: Works inside and outside in all types of weather, with temperatures ranging from 115+ degrees Fahrenheit in summer to 20 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter. Is exposed to strong winds and blowing dust. Works with hazardous chemicals while performing operations, maintenance and evaluations of water and wastewater systems. Operates a variety of motor vehicles and power equipment exposing them to loud noises and strong vibrations. Work around a variety of petroleum and other chemical products such as fuels, greases, paint and solvents with hazardous chemicals, vapors and fumes. May be exposed to infectious diseases and electrical shocks. Mitigates work related hazards by using personal protective equipment and clothing when required and warranted in a variety of environmental conditions previously listed. The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are not suitable for telework. Documentation for the Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA) eligibility, submission of ALL SF-50s and performance information for each period of temporary/term employment that qualifies for LMWFA. Performance documentation can be obtained by contacting the supervisors for the positions you served in during your 24 months. If they did not complete performance appraisals ask them to provide a statement of performance for each period of service. The statement must specify the dates for each employment period and your level of performance (dates should match the dates on the SF-50s).
