Amazon Software Development Manager, Specialist Technology Team in Austin, Texas
Description
We own AI-powered content quality and security validation services used by thousands of AWS builders and internal AWS services to ensure technical documentation, training materials, and customer-facing content meets the highest standards of technical accuracy and security compliance.
We are looking for a Software Development Manager who is passionate about leading a team that owns the design and development of a machine learning-based content assessment systems that supports AWS's extensive content ecosystem.
This team works on challenges including natural language processing, distributed system design, scalable API development, machine learning model integration, and automated testing frameworks. The role involves building serverless architectures, selecting and implementing appropriate AWS based solutions, designing complex content processing pipelines, and ensuring high availability and performance at massive scale.
As a Software Development Manager you will work closely with a diverse and talented team of engineers and product managers to ideate, build, operate, and scale, impactful customer facing features across the full product development lifecycle. You will leverage your experience and unique skills to grow engineers individual careers, and deliver impactful projects to our customers. You are open to learning new skills, growing your career, being mentored, and mentoring others. You’ll collaborate with people and other teams across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security. Our ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for working on behalf of customers, have a track record of on-time delivery of large scale projects, and have the ability to operate independently and autonomously. This individual will be able to understand complex problems and identify areas where they will need to have their team invest, to ensure they are able to support the anticipated growth and future requirements of the services. Maturity, judgment, communication skills, negotiation skills and influencing skills are all essential as you will interact with cross-functional teams worldwide.
Key job responsibilities
· Recruit, hire, mentor, and manage teams of software engineers.
· Foster career growth and a strong team culture.
· Interface with the product manager and internal customers to understand requirements, set priorities, and communicate direction and progress.
· Own the operational health of your team’s software
· Manage the agile development process and methodology to deliver tech requirements on time and with a high-degree of precision and quality.
· Coordinate with stakeholders in other groups, drive alignment across multiple orgs on shared goals and initiatives
· Make long term org design decisions, architectural decisions.
· Help develop long-term business and technology strategies.
· Drive improvements in software engineering practices.

Basic Qualifications
3+ years of engineering team management experience
7+ years of engineering experience
8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
3+ years of Software Engineer, Software Developer, or related occupational experience
1+ years of providing technical leadership and project management for all aspects of the software development lifecycle experience
1+ years of developing large-scale, multi-tiered distributed software systems using Java, C#, or C++ experience
1+ years of developing large-scale, multi-tiered distributed software systems using service-oriented architecture experience
1+ years of developing large-scale, multi-tiered distributed software systems using distributed programming experience
Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
Experience partnering with product or program management teams
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
