Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Senior Engineer - Operations & Maintenance to work out of our Austin, TX office on a hybrid basis.

SUMMARY:

This individual will act as a trusted leader and subject matter expert, providing support to transit and rail clients across the nation. This consultative position collaborates closely with clients leadership to shape operational strategies, ensure readiness, safety certification and facilitate the implementation of new systems, service expansions, and intricate transit programs.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive, hands-on experience at a senior level within a public Rail Operators or transit agency environment, with a comprehensive understanding of the entire lifecycle of operations and maintenance planning—from initial concept through testing, commissioning, and startup. This individual will offer practical, real-world insights to assist agencies in delivering safe, reliable, and efficient services across various transit modes.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Senior advisor to transportation companies and transit agencies on O&M and system readiness initiatives

  • Lead development of Operations & Maintenance (O&M) plans and operational frameworks for new system start-ups and expansions

  • Propose and discuss operational assumptions, prevent implicit operational rules, defining how the system will operate and be maintained.

  • Align operations, design, and integration to anticipate and mitigate operational consequences of design

  • Support testing & commissioning activities, system integration testing, and operational readiness planning

  • Business development of O&M opportunities and support in growth strategy and the development of commercial proposals.

  • Develop Concepts of Operations (ConOps), Concepts of Maintenance (ConMain), pre-revenue operations plans, and mobilization, ramp-up, and transition strategies

  • Collaborate with engineering, systems, and program management teams to align operational and maintenance requirements with all project stages from design, to start-up.

  • Interface directly with client leadership and stakeholders to provide guidance, risk mitigation strategies, and best practices

  • Mentor internal staff, train and communicate with partners and third parties.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • BA/BS + 10 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education    

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Civil Engineering

  • 12+ years of experience in Intercity transport and Transit

  • O&M experience within an Operator or transit agency

  • Project design experience as O&M input to design and system integration

  • Experience across multiple transportation modes, including: Intercity and High-Speed, Light Rail, Commuter Rail/

  • New system start-up and transition planning

  • Experience supporting major capital or system expansion programs

  • Consulting or advisory experience

  • Developing Testing & Commissioning Plans

Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $131000 to $195000.
