Job Title: Construction Project Manager

Job Description

The Construction Project Manager oversees all phases of complex commercial and mission-critical construction projects, from pre-construction planning through project closeout. This role manages budgets, schedules, subcontractors, and internal resources to deliver projects safely, profitably, and in alignment with client expectations and contractual requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the full pre-construction and construction scheduling process, including preplanning, sequencing of work, and coordination with field operations.

  • Review and approve project budgets for labor, materials, and subcontractors, ensuring appropriate allocation of manpower, equipment, and materials from project start to completion while maintaining budgetary discipline.

  • Negotiate and draft subcontractor agreements with external vendors to secure favorable terms that support project goals.

  • Manage overall project finances, including profitability, cash flow, and cost control, with accountability for the job’s financial performance.

  • Monitor and analyze cost to complete in relation to the initial job bid proposal, taking proactive steps to protect and improve project margins.

  • Lead and participate in resolving design conflicts across all trades by collaborating with engineers, architects, and other stakeholders to finalize and refine project specifications.

  • Oversee strategic project planning and manage the submittal, request for information (RFI), and change order processes to maintain clear documentation and project alignment.

  • Implement monthly cost reports and develop accurate cost projections to support informed decision-making and financial forecasting.

  • Research, evaluate, and recommend construction means, methods, and timelines that improve efficiency, quality, and safety.

  • Identify, prepare, and implement change orders as necessary, ensuring proper documentation, pricing, and client communication.

  • Review and approve supplier and subcontractor invoices, verifying accuracy against contracts, work completed, and project budgets.

  • Ensure adherence to all health and safety standards on the project, promptly reporting and addressing any issues or violations.

  • Apply an in-depth understanding of construction procedures, materials, and project management principles to guide daily project execution.

  • Lead scheduling, logistics, and procurement activities for equipment and materials to support uninterrupted field operations.

  • Maintain and strengthen client relationships through professional communication, responsiveness, and consistent delivery on commitments.

  • Identify and actively engage in pursuing upcoming work opportunities, supporting business development efforts with project insights and proposals.

  • Plan, identify, and manage CAD, fabrication, and field labor resources required to meet project scope, schedule, and quality expectations.

  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by enforcing company procedures, rules, and regulations on site and within the project team.

  • Provide direct oversight and direction to subcontractors, ensuring their work aligns with project specifications, schedule, and quality standards.

  • Provide indirect oversight of subcontractor field personnel and internal support services, coordinating efforts to achieve project objectives.

  • Provide direct leadership and guidance to Project Engineers (PEs) and/or Assistant Project Managers (APMs), including mentoring and performance feedback.

  • Organize, maintain, and curate project documents related to work orders, personnel, and project controls to ensure accurate records and easy retrieval.

  • Train estimating staff on the technical aspects of project management to improve bid accuracy and alignment with field execution capabilities.

  • Coordinate daily with the Superintendent to align company resource production capabilities with the construction process and schedule.

  • Professionally solicit vendors and suppliers during the procurement process to secure competitive pricing and reliable delivery.

  • Prepare and present SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analyses for current and future projects to support strategic decision-making.

Required Skills:

  • 5+ years of construction project management experience managing projects up to $15M.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Strong knowledge of commercial, mechanical, MEP, mission‑critical, or data center construction.

  • Proven ability to manage schedules, budgets, subcontractors, and multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.

  • Proficiency with construction tools such as Excel, Microsoft Project, Bluebeam, P6, and AutoBid preferred.

  • Experience mentoring team members and collaborating across estimating, engineering, and field operations.

Work Environment

The role operates primarily in a fast-paced construction office environment with frequent interaction with field operations and project sites. You will work extensively with project management and productivity tools, including Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, and other construction-related software such as AutoBid, P6 Scheduler, and Bluebeam. The position involves close collaboration with engineers, architects, subcontractors, and internal project teams, as well as regular coordination with superintendents and field personnel. The work environment emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and adherence to established procedures, rules, and regulations, both in the office and on-site. Hours are aligned with typical construction project demands, requiring flexibility to support critical project milestones, site activities, and deadlines.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Austin, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $65.00/hr.
