TEXAS WORKFORCE COMMISSION Payroll Specialist (Austin) in Austin, Texas

To support our mission, we are looking for a Payroll Specialist II to join the Payables and Payroll Department. This position is located at 101 E. 15th St, Austin, Texas.
TWC is not considering applications from individuals who require sponsorship for an employment visa, including those with H1B visas or those currently on student or postgraduate visas. You must be a Texas resident to work for the Texas Workforce Commission or willing to relocate to Texas.
WHAT YOU WILL DO: The Payroll Specialist II performs moderately complex (journey-level) payroll processing work. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
YOU WILL BE TRUSTED TO: -Process and reviews personnel action forms, reviewing for accuracy, calculating payments to be made, entering information into the agencys Human Resources and Payroll System. -Verify keyed Processes and reviews automated and manual employee payrolls in compliance with applicable regulations, policies, and procedures. -Enter, update, and retrieve information from various automated, human resources, and/or payroll systems. -Maintain appropriate payroll processing controls and assists with setups of deductions, garnishments, voluntary deductions, termination, Employees Withholding Allowance Certificates (W-4s), and direct deposits, including returned monies and payment cancellations. -Responsible for routine time and labor maintenance and payroll. -May prepare written desk procedures on payroll system changes. -Distribute paychecks and statements of earnings and deductions. -Answer questions and resolves issues related to payroll matters and tax issues. -Perform related work as assigned.
YOU QUALIFY WITH: - One year of full-time experience in payroll processing work. -Relevant academic credits may be applied toward experience qualifications for this position.
YOU ARE A GREAT FIT WITH: -18 to 24 months experience with auditing and administrative related duties. -18 to 24 months experience using accounting or/and payroll software. -18 to 24 months experience using outlook, Microsoft excel, Microsoft word and SharePoint. -18 to 24 months experience handling confidential data. -18 to 24 months experience providing customer service.
