Job Title: Mechanical Engineer

Job Description

This Mechanical Engineer role focuses on designing and developing next-generation server solutions and related mechanical systems. You will serve as the primary R&D contact for local customers, translating their requirements into robust mechanical designs, coordinating closely with manufacturing, and resolving production quality issues. The position offers the opportunity to work on concept-to-production development for server, storage, and desktop products in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.

Responsibilities

  • Cooperate closely with customers to develop next-generation server solutions that meet their technical and performance requirements.

  • Act as the first R&D contact for local customers, handling daily design requests and tasks and providing timely feedback and technical solutions.

  • Collaborate with the factory on Design for Manufacturability (DFM), including related drawings and bill of materials (BOM) work when needed.

  • Handle production quality issues at customer manufacturing plants and provide practical, engineering-based solutions.

  • Design mechanical components and assemblies based on customer and internal requests, ensuring alignment with product and performance specifications.

  • Conduct testing, analysis, and debugging on mechanical prototypes to validate design intent and resolve design issues.

  • Apply mechanical engineering and design principles to ensure designs are suitable for large-scale production, particularly in sheet metal and injection-molded plastic parts.

  • Work with electrical interconnect systems and heat extraction solutions to support high-performance server hardware.

  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with engineering team members in Taiwan to align on design direction, technical decisions, and project timelines.

  • Participate in concept work for new products, adapting to changing project scopes and requirements when concepts are revised or discontinued.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent technical degree.

  • 3+ years of experience in the design and analysis of server, storage, or desktop products.

  • Proficiency in mechanical design for server hardware and related systems.

  • Hands-on experience with SolidWorks or Creo, with the ability and confidence to learn Creo quickly if not already proficient.

  • Experience working with sheet metal and plastic components.

  • Excellent working knowledge of mechanical engineering and design principles, particularly for large-scale production.

  • Specific expertise in sheet metal design, injection molding, electrical interconnect systems, and heat extraction solutions.

  • Ability to analyze and debug mechanical prototypes, including testing and troubleshooting to resolve design issues.

  • Strong communication skills to serve as a primary technical contact for customers and to coordinate with international teams.

  • Calm, steady demeanor and the ability to work effectively in environments where project directions and concepts can change.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience designing mechanical components for rackmount systems, tower servers, or PC chassis.

  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Mandarin is a strong plus.

  • Background in CAD-based mechanical design and modeling.

  • Experience collaborating with manufacturing teams on DFM and BOM-related activities.

  • Ability to manage multiple design requests and customer interactions in a dynamic project environment.

  • Comfort working on concept-stage projects where designs may evolve or be re-scoped.

Work Environment

This is an onsite role at a customer location in North Austin, working Monday through Friday from approximately 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You will work in a professional, technology-focused environment centered on the design and manufacturing of high-quality, reliable rackmount systems, tower servers, and PC chassis. The position involves close interaction with customer engineering and production teams, as well as remote collaboration with colleagues in Taiwan. The work is primarily office and lab-based, using CAD tools such as SolidWorks and Creo, and engaging with prototype and production hardware in a modern engineering setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Austin, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $33.65 - $43.26/hr.
