Insight Global Field Service Technician - Electrical Testing in Austin, Texas
Job Description
Under the supervision of Senior Technicians, the Apparatus Test Technician supports the inspection, testing, maintenance, and commissioning of electrical power systems at customer sites. This role is primarily field-based and requires strong technical aptitude, safety awareness, and the ability to collaborate with internal teams and customers.
Job Description:
Field Testing & Technical Support
• Travel to customer sites to inspect, test, troubleshoot, commission, and collect diagnostic data on electrical systems
• Maintain, test, repair, rebuild, and replace low-, medium-, and high-voltage switchgear and circuit breakers
• Test and inspect low-, medium-, and high-voltage cable installations
• Maintain, test, and repair transformers and related electrical equipment
• Test and calibrate solid-state and electromechanical protective relays
• Perform low- and medium-voltage motor control center (MCC) and contactor testing
• Start up, troubleshoot, and assist with repairs to generator controls and transfer schemes
• Support testing and commissioning of protection and control systems for high-voltage substations
• Sample insulating fluids and assist with interpretation of test results
• Troubleshoot and service automatic transfer switches (ATS)
Project Coordination & Documentation
• Track assigned project scope and communicate progress to leadership and customer management
• Accurately document test results and complete detailed field service reports
• Review and submit timecards, expense reports, and project documentation on time
Safety & Compliance
• Complete Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), including arc flash and shock hazard assessments
• Maintain strict compliance with all applicable regulatory, safety, and quality requirements
• Participate in a rotating emergency on-call schedule

Skills and Requirements
• 3+ YOE in electrical testing and power system services
• Clean background, drug test, and driving record
Should be able to perform the following testing relatively unsupervised or with minimal feedback or questions.
• Low-, medium-, and high-voltage electrical testing, including circuit breakers, switchgear/switchboards, MCCs, transformers (CTs/PTs), cables, grounding systems, motors, and protective devices.
• Proficient with industry-standard test equipment for primary/secondary injection, hipot/VLF, insulation resistance, DLRO, power factor, turns ratio, winding resistance (Megger, AEMC, Doble, Omicron, Vanguard, Raytech, FLIR, Fluke, HVA). • NETA I or II, NICET equivalent certification
• Familiar with NETA Acceptance and Maintenance Testing Standards
