This position performs complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Essential Duties:Responsibilities for a Transportation Engineer II, III or IV include:Manages individual project design and assists with the design, computerized drafting, plan development and preparation of related roadway improvement projects.Develops and reviews engineering related documents, correspondence, reports, and remediation plans.Performs complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.Reviews and revises schematics, PSE, project designs, shop drawings and field changes for traffic control devices, signals, signs, markings, detours, traffic control plans, electrical distribution and roadway lighting and traffic management systems.Evaluates and makes recommendations for developing, monitoring, and updating integrated project plans and schedules so that projects may be executed in the most efficient and effective manner possible.Monitors consultants' progress and work quality; checks invoices and associated documents; prepares supplemental agreements.Negotiates fees, explains scope of work and monitors consultant design contracts.Drives/travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technical support.Performs complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates, and contracts.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. This position requires driving a state vehicle.Additional Responsibilities for Transportation Engineer III include:Performs advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.Additional Responsibilities for Transportation Engineer IV include:Performs highly advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.Oversees and develops plans for complex project(s) related to their resource assignments, schedules, scope, communication, quality, and procurement, while utilizing available resources and maintaining the agency's project objectives.
