Day to Day

The Chief of Staff to the CEO is a critical role that supports the CEO directly.

This role is behind the scenes and involves a wide range of work, both small-scale to large-scale (logistical coordination, leading strategic projects, and managing key leadership relationships and processes) at a high tempo. A critical part of the role is to connect the dots between leaders, priorities, and problems across Indeed. You are often not the final owner or leader for many things, and jump from project to project as needed - sometimes to start fixing an issue, get a project on track, dig into an analytical question, etc - before handing it over to others.

During the time you’re in this role (2 years), you will learn a lot about all functions across Indeed and get behind-the-scenes insight into leadership and company processes. Beyond Indeed, you’ll engage with external leaders and learn more about the broader Recruit family. After this role, you should be equipped to step into new leadership opportunities across Indeed.

Ultimately, the primary success criteria and rubric for this role is: “Did you help the CEO make Indeed more successful?”

Note: depending on the candidates and fit, this role could be a standalone role or could be Chief of Staff + Deputy Chief of Staff pair.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the CEO is effective through time/process management, work delegation, leader relationships, and more. At times, this can be pretty administrative!

  • Serve as the CEO’s proxy and representative in certain contexts

  • Simplify priorities and synthesize communication to and from the CEO

  • Manage HR Tech SBU and SLT team processes

  • Rapid follow-through and resolution on a vast variety of issues, questions, etc

  • Track CEO action items and ensure timely completion

  • Potentially manage other global support roles and teams (eg EAs)

Skills/Competencies

  • Requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience or education

  • Clear and concise communicator across all functions (from R&D to client-facing to finance and more)

  • Ability to collaborate and build relationships and trust across many partners

  • Organized and a quick learner; Proven simplifier and highly analytical

  • Independent executor that can thrive in ambiguity

  • Willingness to challenge consensus and senior leaders, including the CEO; Keep confidential and compartmentalize a lot of sensitive information

  • Be in the office with the CEO regularly (ie 1-2x / week); Sporadic travel (1-3x / year). We are currently only considering candidates based in and able to work in Austin, Texas due to the live collaboration commitments required for this role.
