UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT AUSTIN Assistant Director for Residence Life in AUSTIN, Texas

Responsible for the administration and management of an assigned residential area, as well as summer projects. Provide training and development for the professional and paraprofessional staff members, particularly in the areas of community building, emergency procedures/crisis management and policy implementation; oversee area programming, printing and office supply budgets, and committee budgets.Manages and supervises student life activities of residential units. Develops and implements staff selection/training/orientation. Promotes student government. Familiar with the principles of community development and student learning and actively encourages an environment which reflects a sense of community and interpersonal responsibility that effectively addresses student needs. Continually evaluates programming for the department.Assists in developing and implementing residence life policy, procedures, practices, rules, and regulations governing residential living. Adjudicates students through the residence life and university judicial systems. Counsels students having personal, academic, lifestyle, and career concerns. Assists residents as they pursue their university experience. Makes referrals to other University agencies as needed. Other related functions as assigned.Collaborates with various university departments, as well as external agencies. Serve on student affairs and university committees as required. Represents division and residence life to parents, guests, and members of the university community.Develops a vision, mission, and goals for their area. Continues to read and study current literature on student learning, student development theory, management theory, and student affairs. Serves as a resource person for ideas and information.Inspects residential facilities for the area and works directly with facilities staff on problem solving and developing solutions to issues; recommends projects and facilities needs to Director. Maintains accurate records and assist in the collection of delinquent rent, guest fees, and damage assessments. Assists with the development of new and current policies.Organizes staff selection processes, interviews, and assists in hiring new employees. Evaluates employee performance and provides for the development, supervision and training of Complex Coordinators, Graduate staff, and Area staff. Facilitates regularly scheduled business meetings and serves as a resource person for students and staff. Serves as a 24-hour point person for their residential areas, and for other university emergency response staff.
