Robert Half Assistant Controller in Austin, Texas

Description

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to support a growing organization in Austin, TX. This role is ideal for an accounting leader who thrives in a hands‑on environment and enjoys improving processes, strengthening reporting accuracy, and supporting executive leadership. You will oversee financial statement preparation, drive close activities, support audits, manage consolidations, and ensure the integrity of accounting operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the preparation of accurate, timely financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow).

  • Review monthly trial balances, identify discrepancies, and execute necessary adjustments.

  • Lead annual audit preparation, including financial statement packages, supporting schedules, and coordination with external auditors.

  • Manage consolidations across multiple entities, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting standards.

  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts; ensure alignment with sub-ledgers and proper documentation.

  • Direct the month‑end close process, including reconciliations, accruals, variance analysis, and deadline management.

  • Develop and maintain Oracle reports, allocations, and financial tools to support internal stakeholders.

  • Oversee fixed asset accounting, including additions, disposals, transfers, and system accuracy (in partnership with IT and Facilities).

  • Analyze partnership investments and prepare reports and financial insights for senior leadership.

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop General Ledger Accountants; uphold accountability and strong workflow execution.

  • Partner with leadership to streamline processes, enhance reporting, and support special projects and cross‑functional initiatives.

    Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.

6+ years of experience in financial reporting, general ledger oversight, and financial statement preparation.

3+ years leading or supervising accounting teams.

Strong command of accrual‑based accounting principles.

Advanced proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, complex formulas) and Microsoft Access.

Experience with Oracle or other enterprise accounting systems preferred.

Background in healthcare, partnership, or real estate accounting is a plus.

Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize effectively, and meet tight deadlines.

Strong analytical, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
