Rush Copley Medical Center Clinical Pharmacist in Aurora, Illinois
Emergency medicine pharmacist who ensures optimal clinical outcomes by providing integrated pharmaceutical services through informational and clinical services as well as drug distribution. Current Illinois license as a registered Pharmacist must possess a PharmD, and completed a PGY1 general residency and PGY2 residency in emergency medicine.
Must be Board Certified in Emergency Medicine Pharmacy during 1st year of employment.
Job responsibilities:
The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, Emergency Medicine, is responsible primarily for patient care in the Emergency Department (ED)
The role involves a mixed patient population, treating both pediatric and adult emergencies
Weekday responsibilities are unit-based, including discharge culture follow-up, order verification, medication therapy optimization, and precepting pharmacy students or residents (PGY1/PGY2)
Each individual must display maturity, independence, initiative, and strong verbal/written communication skills
Evaluate and verify Epic physicians' orders for therapeutic appropriateness, proper dosing, optimal dosage form, drug interactions, allergic reactions, route and rate of administration, and therapeutic redundancy
Clarify physicians' orders when necessary, through direct and timely contact with the prescriber or designated practitioner
Provides patient-specific pharmacotherapy recommendations and drug information to the medical and nursing staff
Participates in the pharmacy department's most current method of documenting clinical interventions
Perform daily review of pharmacy reports, including pharmacokinetic monitoring and other drug or patient-specific reports that may be required
Assess and evaluate the medical and drug literature in order to compare and contrast therapeutic regimens and uses for new or existing drug treatments
Implement medication safety initiatives as determined by current departmental needs and ongoing projects
Develop operational and clinical projects as determined by current departmental needs and ongoing projects
Every other weekend
