SUMMARY: This position creates a flexible elementary program and a class environment favorable to\ learning and personal growth; establishes effective rapport with pupils to motivate them to develop the\ skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for elementary education in\ accordance with each pupils ability; and to establish good relationships with parents and other staff\ members.\ ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

Teaches district approved curriculum.

Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning through functional and attractive\ displays, interest centers, and exhibits of students work.

Instructs pupils in citizenship and subject matter specified in state law and district policies.

Develop lesson plans and instructional material to provide individualized and small group\ instruction, adapting the curriculum to meet each pupils needs.

Uses developmentally appropriate learning experiences.

Communicates regularly with parents by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences,\ etc.

Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning\ atmosphere.

Evaluates pupils academic and social growth, keeping appropriate records and preparing\ progress reports.

Identifies pupil needs and makes referrals and develops strategies for individual education plans.

Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.

Plans and coordinates the work of paraeducators and volunteers in the classroom and on field\ trips.

Maintains confidentiality of student information.\ SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Students, aides, and volunteers

Bachelors degree\ CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Kansas teaching certificate with appropriate level and endorsement required\ LANGUAGE SKILLS:

To read, analyze, and interpret periodicals, professional journals, and procedures.

To write reports, correspondence, and lesson plans.

? To effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students,\ parents, and the general public.\ MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Requirement varies. At a minimum, to apply concepts such as\ fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions. Ability to apply concepts of\ basic algebra and geometry.\ REASONING ABILITY: To solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete\ variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. To interpret a variety of\ instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.\ OTHER SKILLS and/or ABILITIES:

To apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program

To plan and implement lessons based on school objectives and the needs/abilities of\ students to whom assigned

To establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the\ school community

To communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written communications

Ability to perform duties under the demands of multiple tasks and directives occurring\ simultaneously

To perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education\ policies
