Job Summary and Qualifications
Draws blood from patients for analysis or other medical purposes. Assembles equipment, such as tourniquet, needles, disposable containers for needles, blood collection tubes, gauze, cotton, and alcohol on work tray according to requirements for specified tests. Verifies and records patient identity and converses with patient to explain procedures and allay fear of procedure.
What qualifications you will need:
You will promote consistent and positive patient interactions that advance the agenda of unparalleled patient service.
You will perform specimen collection while following the established policies and procedures of the Clinical Laboratory.
You will instruct patients on proper specimen collection procedures.
You will work efficiently and communicate effectively under stressful conditions and time constraints.
You must maintain strict confidentiality of work-related information.
You will practice good infection control by hand washing, wearing personal protective equipment, for the protection of patient and self while maintaining a neat, well-kept work area
Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
What qualifications you will need:
Licensure/Certification/Registration: Phlebotomy certificate preferred
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: One-year hospital experience (including venipuncture experience) preferred.
Familiarity with a hospital laboratory is desired. Medical terminology preferred.
