Job Description
Provide technical and delivery leadership in this Mechanical Team Lead , Auckland-based role, leading an experienced mechanical building services team while remaining hands-on across project delivery. You will bring strong technical expertise and oversight to support the successful delivery of complex building services projects across sectors including healthcare, aviation and education, leveraging both local capability and the wider AECOM network.
This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by shaping team capability, driving technical excellence and contributing to the continued growth of AECOM’s building services offering in New Zealand. You will play a key role in developing client relationships, supporting project delivery outcomes and enhancing AECOM’s reputation for quality and innovation, while working closely with teams across New Zealand and Australia.
You’ll also gain exposure to large-scale, technically challenging and high-profile projects across Australia and the wider ANZ region , working alongside leading specialists and contributing to projects that push innovation in healthcare, aviation and complex infrastructure.
Provide technical leadership and oversight across mechanical building services projects, acting as the local point of contact for design quality, technical assurance and project escalation.
Lead and develop the Auckland mechanical team, supporting mentoring, capability growth and a high-performance team culture.
Build and maintain strong client relationships as a trusted advisor, contributing to business development and long-term opportunities.
Support project delivery excellence through design coordination, technical verification, risk management and alignment with commercial objectives.
Contribute to the wider Building Services team across New Zealand and ANZ, sharing knowledge and leveraging broader technical expertise.
Qualifications

A relevant tertiary qualification in mechanical engineering or similar.
10+ years of experience in mechanical building services and recognised for your technical and project delivery expertise
Demonstrated experience leading or mentoring teams, with the ability to manage a range of experience levels and provide clear oversight across multiple concurrent projects.
Ideally Chartered (CPEng) or application well progressed
Proven ability to balance hands-on project delivery with high-level oversight, including stepping in at key escalation points and guiding successful outcomes.
Strong background in complex project environments (ideally healthcare and/or aviation), with the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple projects.
Strong client relationship and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and contribute to long-term opportunities.
Solid understanding of New Zealand building services standards, codes and industry practices, or the ability to quickly adapt from similar international markets (e.g. UK or Australia).
Commercial awareness and understanding of the ‘consulting environment, including project financials, risk management and delivery expectations.
