Actalent Facilities Engineer in Auburn Hills, Michigan

Job Title: Facilities EngineerJob Description

We are seeking a Facilities Engineer to lead the development and management of requirements for a new government-aligned facility. This role is crucial during the early phases of a multi-year program. You will be responsible for defining the technical and operational needs of the future facility, ensuring compliance with government standards, and driving those requirements through design, planning, and eventual construction. Your expertise will bridge the gap between conceptual facility needs and executable construction plans, positioning the organization for a seamless build once construction begins in approximately two years.

Responsibilities

  • Drive improvements in facility operations, maintenance programs, and real property management.

  • Provide technical recommendations for manufacturing optimization, cost reduction, and operational efficiency.

  • Represent the organization in client meetings, program reviews, and technical discussions.

  • Prepare and deliver engineering reports, assessments, and presentations.

  • Oversee contractor-executed planning, development, maintenance, and property disposition.

  • Evaluate contractor performance against cost, schedule, quality, and compliance requirements.

  • Apply project management principles to facility-related projects.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local real property policies and regulations.

  • Conduct facility inspections, engineering analyses, and operational studies.

  • Identify operational risks and provide recommendations for corrective actions.

  • Coordinate with client teams, contractors, and internal stakeholders.

Essential Skills

  • 7+ years of experience as a Facilities Engineer/Mechanical Designer/Mechanical Engineer within a GOCO or USG facility.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

  • Professional Engineer License (MI, OH preferred).

  • Experience working on projects from concept to design.

  • Experience working with mechanical systems (HVAC, Plumbing).

  • Demonstrated capability in developing, defining, and managing facility requirements for new facilities.

  • Proven experience managing requirements through construction.

  • Experience evaluating contractor performance against cost, schedule, quality, and compliance requirements.

  • U.S. Citizenship required.

  • Understanding of real property regulations, easements, permitting, and land-use agreements.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in construction management, project management, estimating, scheduling, and quality control.

  • PE License is a bonus.

Work Environment

This position offers flexibility with remote work options available. If local, expect a 75% office and 25% travel arrangement. Travel will be to client job sites across the US and requires flexibility for short-term or long-term stays. A per diem at GSA rate covers lodging and meals/incidentals during travel. The average workweek is 45 hours, potentially increasing to 60 hours depending on workload. Standard hours are 8-5PM with flexible scheduling.

This is a Contract position based out of Auburn Hills, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $57.00 - $67.31/hr.
