Description
The Senior Medical Equipment Planner supports Emory Healthcare's planning, design, and construction initiatives by leading project-level medical equipment planning, budgeting, coordination, and implementation across capital projects that align with organizational mission and strategic priorities.
This role serves as the Planning, Design, and Construction (PDC) subject matter expert for medical equipment integration, ensuring that equipment scope, budgets, infrastructure requirements, phasing, delivery, installation, and turnover are effectively coordinated throughout the project lifecycle.
The Senior Medical Equipment Planner partners closely with Supply Chain, Clinical Operations, Biomedical Engineering, Facilities, Finance, architects, engineers, and construction teams to ensure that enterprise equipment strategies and sourcing decisions are successfully executed within projects.
The position plays a critical role in aligning medical equipment planning with project design, construction sequencing, operational readiness, and enterprise procurement strategies.
Project Medical Equipment Planning & Integration
Lead project-level medical equipment planning activities from early planning phases through project completion and turnover
Develop and maintain project medical equipment lists, budgets, phasing plans, and infrastructure requirements in coordination with project teams
Ensure alignment between project scope, construction schedules, and equipment delivery, installation, and commissioning requirements
Coordinate Owner-Furnished / Contractor-Installed (OFCI) workflows with project teams and contractors
Develop and implement standardized tools, processes, and workflows for medical equipment planning across PDC projects
Budgeting & Cost Coordination
Develop and manage the medical equipment portion of project budgets in collaboration with PDC Project Managers, Finance, and Supply Chain teams
Validate equipment scope and planning assumptions to ensure budget alignment with project requirements
Identify potential budget risks, gaps, or scope misalignment and support value analysis and scope optimization discussions
Track and reconcile equipment budgets throughout project phases
Design & Construction Coordination
Collaborate with architects, engineers, and clinical stakeholders to ensure equipment requirements are incorporated into room layouts, infrastructure design, and construction sequencing
Participate in planning, programming, and design meetings to represent medical equipment scope and coordination needs
Review design documents for equipment-related constructability, infrastructure coordination, and compliance requirements
Support site readiness planning for equipment delivery, installation, and integration with building systems
Implementation, Installation & Turnover
Coordinate with Supply Chain, vendors, construction teams, and site stakeholders to align equipment delivery schedules with construction progress
Facilitate equipment installation sequencing, site access planning, and coordination of testing, commissioning, and turnover activities
Serve as the PDC point of coordination for resolving equipment-related field issues impacting schedule, cost, or operations
Support transition-to-operations and facility activation activities related to medical equipment installation
Provide oversight and coordination of external medical equipment planning and implementation partners
Partnership with Supply Chain & Enterprise Teams
Partner with Supply Chain medical equipment planning and procurement teams to align project requirements with enterprise sourcing and contracting strategies
Coordinate with Biomedical Engineering, Facilities, IT, and Clinical Operations teams to ensure equipment support and operational readiness requirements are met
Provide project-level feedback to enterprise stakeholders regarding implementation risks, operational constraints, or process improvement opportunities
Governance, Documentation & Communication
Develop and maintain standard operating procedures, templates, and planning tools to support consistent equipment planning across projects
Maintain accurate and auditable documentation related to equipment scope, budgets, schedules, and coordination activities
Support project reporting, risk management, and issue resolution related to medical equipment planning and implementation
Foster collaborative relationships across PDC, Supply Chain, Clinical, and Operations teams to support successful project delivery
Additional Duties as Assigned
Travel - Travel between project sites, hospitals, and administrative locations may be required
Work Type - Hybrid employee - splits time between working remotely and working in the office
Minimum Required Qualifications
Education - Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Architecture, Interior Design, Biomedical Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field
Experience - Minimum five years of progressively responsible experience in medical equipment planning, healthcare capital project delivery, or related roles
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Required)
Knowledge of medical equipment planning practices within healthcare capital projects
Experience developing and managing equipment budgets, equipment lists, and project coordination workflows
Ability to coordinate complex projects involving clinical stakeholders, design teams, contractors, and procurement teams
Strong organizational and project coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple project priorities simultaneously
Knowledge of healthcare facility planning, equipment infrastructure requirements, and clinical operational workflows
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills across multidisciplinary teams
Ability to identify project risks and develop practical solutions within complex healthcare environments
Preferred Qualifications
Education - Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field
Experience - Experience working in complex healthcare capital planning environments; Experience supporting OFCI coordination, equipment procurement workflows, and facility activation processes
Certification:
Project Management Professional (PMP)
Lean / Six Sigma certification
Other healthcare planning or capital project certifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Preferred)
Familiarity with medical equipment planning methodologies and project activation processes
Knowledge of construction project delivery models and healthcare capital project lifecycle management
Experience navigating matrixed organizations with multiple stakeholders
Ability to support process improvement initiatives and project performance reporting
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium - Max 25 lbs.) Up to 25 lbs., 0-33% of the workday (occasionally); lifting and carrying objects up to 25 lbs.; occasional standing and walking; occasional sitting; close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing). Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and tasks.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS Environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and project site. Work may involve exposure to construction environments, noise, and active project sites. Travel between healthcare facilities and project locations may be required. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required depending on project conditions.
