Job Description

The Project Manager leads retrofit programs for new equipment across multiple manufacturing sites, ensuring each project meets scope, schedule, and quality expectations. This role oversees the full lifecycle of retrofit initiatives, from vendor bidding and RFPs through installation and launch, while coordinating closely with preconstruction, safety, and installation teams. The position offers significant exposure to a broader program management organization and the opportunity to contribute to a long-term redeployment strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Manage retrofit projects for new equipment across multiple manufacturing sites, ensuring all milestones are completed on time and within defined scope.

  • Oversee program management activities for each site, including planning, execution, monitoring, and closeout.

  • Lead and coordinate the initial bid and RFP processes for equipment vendors, ensuring competitive and compliant proposals.

  • Partner closely with internal preconstruction teams to align project plans, budgets, and schedules before execution begins.

  • Collaborate with safety teams to ensure all retrofit activities comply with safety standards and procedures.

  • Work directly with installation teams to drive progress, remove roadblocks, and keep installations on schedule.

  • Develop, maintain, and track detailed project schedules, proactively managing timelines, dependencies, and critical path items.

  • Escalate schedule risks and issues in a timely manner, proposing solutions and recovery plans to keep projects on track.

  • Coordinate launches and retrofit go-lives in a manufacturing environment, ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing operations.

  • Manage and track material handling equipment and related components required for retrofit projects.

  • Use tools such as Excel and Smartsheet to track project progress, milestones, resources, and reporting metrics.

  • Communicate project status, risks, and updates to stakeholders across multiple sites and functional teams.

  • Support multiple sites concurrently, prioritizing tasks and resources based on project stage and urgency.

  • Contribute to and support a broader program-level redeployment strategy for equipment and manufacturing capabilities.

Essential Skills

  • Proven project management experience overseeing retrofit installations or similar complex technical projects.

  • Hands-on experience with project scheduling, including building and managing detailed timelines and handling escalations.

  • Experience with launches or retrofits within a manufacturing setting.

  • Experience in manufacturing environments with assembly lines that move product downstream.

  • Experience leading projects and driving cross-functional teams to deliver results.

  • Knowledge of material handling systems and equipment.

  • Proficiency with Excel for tracking, analysis, and reporting.

  • Experience using Smartsheet or similar project management and scheduling tools.

  • Bachelor’s degree.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working with construction or installation activities related to manufacturing equipment.

  • Familiarity with coordinating preconstruction and execution teams in a multi-site environment.

  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects at different stages of completion.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills across technical and non-technical teams.

  • Comfort working within a broader program management structure and contributing to long-term redeployment strategies.

Work Environment

This role operates primarily in a remote work environment, with regular travel of approximately 25%–40% to manufacturing sites. Travel typically occurs around once per month but may increase to twice per month during peak periods or critical project phases. The Project Manager supports both upstream preconstruction teams and downstream execution teams across a large portfolio of sites. Currently, about 25 sites are in various stages of retrofit projects, with each site typically running for about six months, and additional sites in the approval pipeline. Work involves frequent virtual collaboration, use of project management tools such as Excel and Smartsheet, and on-site visits to active manufacturing and construction environments.
