The Boiler Plant Operator I position ensures that the boiler and chiller systems operate effectively within their design capacities and/or capabilities at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. This would include monitoring asset condition, performing maintenance repairs; maintaining plant cleanliness and managing the chemical inventory; calibrating equipment, instruments and monitoring the Metasys Building Maintenance System (BMS). In addition, the Boiler Plant Operator I will use his/her expertise to monitor control panels and panel boards and adjust controls, valves, and pumps manually or by remote control to regulate flow, pressure levels and distribution of heated or chilled water throughout the system. The Boiler Plant Operator I position responsibilities also include operating and controlling electric motors, pumps, and valves in the plant to regulate the HVAC and other systems at the airport, as well as sample collections and the performance of routine laboratory tests to ensure proper chemical levels. The Boiler Plant Operator I will report to the Plant Manager and must be able to perform the above described operational and maintenance tasks with Plant Manager’s supervision.

Essential Job Functions

  • Maintains, operates, inspects, and repairs plant equipment and utilities secondary equipment including high pressure boilers, cooling tower equipment, chill/hot water secondary pumps, (BMS) building management systems, air compressor system and related equipment.

  • Collects samples and performs routine laboratory test.

  • Operates and controls electric motors, pump, gates valves into plant and regulate process.

  • Maintain a log of operations, observes variations in operating conditions and records.

  • Checks and verifies repairs to plant facility and machinery on a regular basis to ensure quality.

  • Monitors, recommends, and submit requisitions for needed equipment repairs.

  • Collaborates with boiler plant operators to increase efficiency and avoid duplication of work efforts.

  • Ensures a safe, comfortable, and appropriate environment of care by ensuring utilities, boiler steam and other services are available.

  • Performs related duties, as required.

  • Able to work independently, as well as on teams to competently and safety manage utility plant maintenance and repair projects, as well as plant or airport equipment and other system operations as needed.

Able to demonstrate good computer skills using the Microsoft Office suite programs, as well as Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS). * Able to demonstrate superior verbal and written communication skills.

  • Able to follow and guide others in meeting all AAT Project safety requirements to support Beyond Zero safety goals that promote continuous improvements in safety culture at our project.

  • Able to use lifts and ladders in the performance of assignments.

  • Able to work a compressed or extended schedule, which may apply during extreme weather event or other irregular operations.

Valid driver’s license. * Availability to work assigned shifts as needed.

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • (1) year experience with industrial or central utility plant operations and maintenance techniques and related equipment required with three (3) years preferred.

  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Georgia State Association of Power Engineers, Inc. certification or equivalent preferred.
