The Environmental Laboratory Technician will perform comprehensive environmental monitoring and testing to identify pollutants and other contaminants in air, water, and soil. This role involves collecting samples from various sources, conducting detailed analyses using specialized laboratory equipment and techniques, and supporting compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations. The technician will contribute to accurate data generation, environmental reporting, and the continuous improvement of environmental systems and processes.
Responsibilities
Collect environmental samples from air, water, soil, and related sources following established sampling protocols and quality assurance procedures.
Monitor environmental systems, including wastewater treatment, air pollution control, and waste management operations, to ensure proper performance and regulatory compliance.
Perform data review and reporting of common environmental analyses, including but not limited to chemistry bench analysis, gravimetric analysis, chromatography, and spectrometry.
Conduct laboratory testing and analysis of environmental samples using techniques such as gravimetric analysis, chromatography, spectrometry, and other environmental chemistry methods.
Use specialized environmental monitoring equipment and data analysis tools to evaluate air and water quality data, assess environmental conditions, and identify trends.
Maintain accurate and complete environmental documentation, including test results, permits, logs, and records required for regulatory compliance and reporting.
Support monitoring and verification of compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations, permits, and standards relevant to the organization’s operations.
Apply environmental modeling software and analytical methods to interpret data and make informed recommendations on system performance and environmental impact.
Assist in the implementation and support of emergency response plans for environmental incidents, spills, and accidents by providing data, documentation, and technical input.
Communicate technical information, test results, and compliance requirements clearly and effectively to colleagues, supervisors, and other stakeholders.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support environmental goals, continuous improvement initiatives, and best practices in environmental monitoring and testing.
Ensure meticulous attention to detail in sample handling, data entry, calculations, and documentation to maintain high standards of quality and regulatory accuracy.
Essential Skills
5 to 10 years of experience in environmental monitoring and testing, with a strong understanding of environmental regulations and industrial processes.
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Environmental Sciences, or a related field, or an Associate’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, or Environmental Sciences.
Profound knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental regulations, permits, and standards.
Proficiency in environmental monitoring equipment and instruments used for air, water, and soil analysis.
Hands-on experience in chemistry bench analysis, gravimetric analysis, chromatography, and spectrometry.
Strong environmental chemistry knowledge and ability to apply it in laboratory testing and data interpretation.
Ability to use data analysis tools and environmental modeling software to evaluate environmental conditions and system performance.
Strong analytical thinking skills to assess environmental data, identify trends, and make informed recommendations.
Effective written and verbal communication skills to convey technical information and compliance requirements clearly.
Strong problem-solving abilities to address complex environmental challenges and propose practical, innovative solutions.
Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy in environmental documentation, calculations, and regulatory compliance.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with colleagues and multidisciplinary stakeholders.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience reviewing and validating environmental laboratory data for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to quality standards.
Familiarity with environmental quality assurance and quality control practices in a laboratory setting.
Ability to interpret environmental permits, standards, and regulatory guidance and apply them in day-to-day laboratory work.
Comfort working with multiple analytical methods and adapting to new laboratory techniques and technologies.
Strong organizational skills to manage multiple sampling and testing tasks, deadlines, and documentation requirements.
Ability to support or participate in emergency response efforts for environmental incidents by providing timely analytical data and documentation.
Work Environment
This position is 100% laboratory-based, working in a professional environmental testing lab setting. The role involves frequent handling of environmental samples, use of analytical instruments such as chromatography and spectrometry equipment, and operation of environmental monitoring tools. The work environment emphasizes adherence to laboratory safety protocols, proper use of personal protective equipment, and compliance with established quality and regulatory standards. The technician will work closely with other laboratory and environmental professionals in a collaborative, data-driven environment focused on accuracy, reliability, and regulatory compliance.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Atlanta, GA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.
