Smurfit Westrock Director, Commercial Excellence & Strategy in Atlanta, Georgia

The Opportunity:

As Director of Commercial Excellence & Strategy for the Corrugated Division, you\u2019ll be working with sales and marketing to steer direction, set strategy, and make things happen. Reporting to the VP, Marketing, you\u2019ll drive big changes, boost sales and talent, and use data to make smart decisions that inform commercial leaders on sales performance, trends, and required actions. Your focus will be on leading strategic initiatives, improving sales effectiveness, and helping develop talent\u2014ensuring they work together to deliver real results.

How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:

Strategic Leadership & Change Management

  • Partner with sales and marketing to build and execute divisional and local go-to-market strategies.

  • Drive growth by ensuring alignment across commercial, operations, and marketing.

  • Develop commercial talent and foster a high-performance culture by launching targeted training and sharing success stories.

  • Lead AI strategy and roadmap for the function, integrating CRM, sales tools, and financial information to enable commercial leaders to be more efficient and data-driven.

  • Prepare executive materials for customer engagements, ensuring they align with the objectives of each engagement.

Sales Effectiveness & Talent Development

  • Support local areas with sales onboarding and continuous training, and ensure our core Learning and Development initiatives drive the behaviors and actions needed to meet our core commercial competencies

  • Identify skill gaps, design learning experiences, and implement practices to elevate seller performance.

  • Define and track key metrics to ensure commercial success, sustained performance, and ensure that required action planning is executed

  • Integrate cutting-edge systems, tools, and capabilities to maximize sales force productivity and engagement against core competencies

Data-Driven Decision Making

  • Oversee centralized CRM and analytics platforms, delivering real-time pipeline management, actionable sales reporting, and business intelligence that empowers decisive leadership

  • Lead the functional team to deliver financial insights, dynamic seller scorecards, and automated reporting that drive commercial excellence

  • Maintain governance over dashboards and reporting, ensuring leadership has data-driven view of sales performance and market dynamics

What you need to succeed:

  • Bachelor\u2019s degree in Sales, Marketing, Finance, Management, or a related field; Master\u2019s preferred.

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in commercial strategy, sales operations, or related fields.

  • Experience in packaging and corrugate strongly preferred

  • B2B sales experience preferred.

  • Demonstrated expertise in advanced data analytics, including the ability to extract, interpret, and communicate actionable insights from complex datasets to inform commercial strategy and decision-making.

  • Deep proficiency in business intelligence tools and platforms, including Microsoft Excel, Alteryx, QlikCloud, Power BI, and CRM systems.

  • Proven experience leading analytics teams and developing automated reporting solutions that drive sales effectiveness and operational efficiency.

  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and analytical skills, with a track record of influencing senior management through data-driven recommendations.

  • Strong focus on talent development, change management, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement in a fast-paced environment.
