Job Title: Electromechanical Technician

Job Description

The Electromechanical Technician participates in the design, construction, modification, and maintenance of equipment and machinery used in the manufacturing of vehicle carpet, insulation, and foam products. This role focuses on inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing complex production machinery, including presses, laminators, and automated systems, in accordance with engineering principles and safety regulations. The technician supports continuous production by analyzing mechanical and operational issues, performing preventative maintenance, and collaborating closely with production teams across multiple shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the design, construction, modification, and maintenance of manufacturing equipment and machinery used for vehicle carpet, insulation, and foam production.

  • Inspect and repair machinery and equipment based on operating parameters, engineering principles, and safety regulations.

  • Work on six manufacturing lines that utilize hot presses and cold presses operated by Siemens PLCs to bind insulating materials and shape products for specific vehicles.

  • Support the operation and maintenance of water jet cutting systems that create precise cutouts in materials with angles the cold press cannot handle.

  • Maintain and troubleshoot light foam lamination equipment, including heat units and conveyors, that provide mild heat for adhesive bonding and sealing.

  • Analyze mechanical and operational problems on production equipment and take timely corrective actions to restore optimal performance.

  • Test newly installed or modified equipment to verify proper functionality, safety, and performance.

  • Perform preventative maintenance on presses, laminators, conveyors, motors, and related systems to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.

  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, including 24V control wiring, 3-phase 480V wiring, AC and DC motors, and 480V distribution systems such as busway, disconnects, and power transformers.

  • Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems by interpreting hydraulic prints and troubleshooting valves, cylinders, and pressure switches.

  • Maintain and troubleshoot pneumatic systems, including valves, lines, and actuators, to ensure reliable machine operation.

  • Perform maintenance and troubleshooting on conveyor belts, transmission chains, sprockets, pulleys, press brakes, stamping presses, and lamination equipment.

  • Utilize PLC troubleshooting and automation knowledge to identify and resolve control system issues.

  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with other departments and shifts to coordinate maintenance activities and minimize production interruptions.

  • Notify supervision of recurring equipment issues, document corrective actions taken, and suggest improvements where appropriate.

  • Work closely with machine operators to support production, provide technical guidance, and ensure equipment is set up and running correctly.

  • Read and comprehend work instructions, electrical prints, and hydraulic prints to perform accurate and efficient repairs.

  • Adhere strictly to all safety procedures and guidelines while working with mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.

  • Work overtime as necessary to support production demands and respond to urgent maintenance needs.

  • Use basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, to record maintenance activities, log issues, and track equipment performance.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma.

  • 1–2 years of industrial maintenance experience.

  • At least 3 years of experience reading and interpreting electrical prints.

  • Maintenance electrical experience, including 24V control wiring, 3-phase 480V wiring and troubleshooting, and AC and DC motor maintenance.

  • Knowledge of 480V distribution systems, including busway, disconnects, and power transformers.

  • Ability to read and interpret hydraulic prints and troubleshoot hydraulic systems, including valves, cylinders, and pressure switches.

  • Knowledge of pneumatic systems, including maintenance and troubleshooting of pneumatic components.

  • Hands-on experience with maintenance and troubleshooting of conveyor belts, transmission chains, sprockets, pulleys, press brakes, stamping presses, and lamination equipment.

  • Experience with PLC troubleshooting and automation in a manufacturing environment.

  • Mechanical aptitude as a primary skillset, with strong hydraulic and pneumatic capabilities.

  • Ability to read and comprehend work instructions.

  • Willingness and ability to work overtime as needed.

  • Effective communication skills to coordinate with other departments and shifts.

  • Commitment to safety and adherence to safety regulations and procedures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working with Siemens PLC-controlled equipment, including hot and cold presses.

  • Exposure to fanuc and ABB robots and robotics systems.

  • Experience with mechanical maintenance in a high-volume manufacturing environment.

  • Familiarity with press brake, stamping press, and lamination processes.

  • Understanding of 3-phase power systems and AC/DC motor control.

  • Experience with automation systems in production settings.

  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel for logging maintenance activities and tracking equipment data.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team of maintenance technicians and collaborate with production operators.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing environment with six production lines and a light foam lamination area. The facility is non-climate controlled and can become hot with high humidity, especially during warmer periods. Most of the workday is spent on your feet, working on the production floor around presses, laminators, conveyors, and automated equipment. The maintenance team consists of approximately eight technicians who support 2nd and 3rd shifts. The 3rd shift typically runs from 11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. with a shift premium, and both 2nd and 3rd shifts receive designated shift differentials. The average workweek is about 55–60 hours, including a 6-day work schedule, which may involve overtime. The dress code requires jeans, steel-toe footwear, and a work shirt to ensure safety and practicality while working around industrial equipment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Athens, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $31.00/hr.
