Ohio University American Sign Language Visiting Professor (non-tenure track) in Athens, Ohio
Job Description:
The Department of Hearing, Speech and Language Sciences in the College of Health Sciences and Professions invites applicants for a visiting faculty position to teach American Sign Language ( ASL ) and other related courses on the Athens campus. The Department offers a full array of ASL courses and serves over 1000 students per year. This is a 9-month full-time visiting faculty position beginning August 16, 2026. This is a one-year term with the option to renew for up to three years depending on performance and funding. The teaching workload will be a minimum of 24 credit hours per year.
Other responsibilities may include recruitment and recommendation of part-time faculty, student recruitment, academic advising, curriculum development, and program review and evaluation.
Minimum Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in Deaf Studies, ASL education, ASL studies, cultural anthropology or related field by the start date.
Teaching experience related to ASL .
Significant intensive language study and immersion in ASL .
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in American Sign Language or related field.
ASLTA Certification, NIC Certification, or SLPI (see special instructions to applicant for additional details)
5 years intensive language study and immersion in ASL
Expertise in any of the following areas: ASL , Deaf Culture and Community, Deaf Education, ASL Linguistics, ASL Literature, Disability Studies and/or Second language Acquisition.
