Sanitation Light Equipment Operator II: Grade 10 Base Hourly: $19.47/hr.--$29.63/hr. Base Annual: $40,497.60--$61,630.40

JOB SUMMARY:

This position operates equipment in the maintenance of city grounds and rights-of-way. An incumbent in this position may be designated Light Equipment Operator II.

MAJOR DUTIES:

Mows and weed-eats the city right-of-way. Operates a variety of grounds maintenance equipment. Oversees the work of assigned seasonal, part-time, and inmate laborers. Collects litter from city right-of-way. Assists in the collection of leaves from residential properties. Performs a variety of manual tasks as needed. Delivers garbage and recycling cans to customers. Spreads mulch to maintain city landscaping. Performs related duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

18 year or older. High School Diploma, GED and/or equivalent work experience. Valid Drivers license. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:

Knowledge of grounds maintenance principles and practices. Knowledge of the geography and streets of the city. Knowledge of grounds maintenance equipment operation and maintenance principles. Knowledge of safe work principles. Skill in problem solving. Skill in prioritizing and planning. Skill in interpersonal relations. Skill in the operation of assigned equipment. Skill in the operation of hand and power tools. Skill in oral and written communication.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK:

The work consists of related equipment operation and grounds maintenance duties. Inclement weather and heavy traffic contribute to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to operate equipment in in the maintenance of city grounds and rights-of-way. Successful performance helps ensure attractive and well-maintained city properties.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, walking, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell. The work is typically performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, or irritating chemicals. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.

Physical

strength, ability, and mobility to perform all essential job functions with or without accommodation. Must be willing to work overtime, non-standard work hours, holidays, shifts, and weekends as necessary. Must be willing to be on-call.
