Network Support Specialist I IT/4 Information Technology JOB SUMMARY This position performs specialized duties in support of department operations, including maintaining voting equipment and providing help desk support to end-users. MAJOR DUTIES Performs voting machine accuracy testing and maintains testing documentation; schedules and coordinates the delivery of voting equipment to polling sites; schedules and conducts poll worker and poll inspector training; provides phone and field support on election day; analyzes problem reports and takes corrective action to repair equipment; schedules and coordinates the pick-up of voting machines on election night; receives voting returns. Answer help desk calls and provides technical support; performs initial troubleshooting; enters tickets in help desk system and documents work performed. Adds and removes users from active directory and other associated systems; assigns permissions to users/groups as required. Troubleshoots and maintains IP-based physical security hardware/software and IP-based camera systems and NVRs. Researches technical issues and hardware; makes purchasing recommendations to senior staff. Installs and replaces desktops, laptops, VOIP phones, and other peripheral equipment as required; installs hardware in datacenter racks as required. Manages the recycling of equipment after sanitizing storage. Performs serve maintenance and upgrades. Installs and terminates network wiring according to industry standards. Assists in managing virtual infrastructure. Knowledge of hardware, software, and network configuration and diagnostic principles. Knowledge of Windows operating systems. Knowledge of election equipment and related election standards and laws. Skill in troubleshooting and resolving computer hardware and software problems. Skill in problem solving. Skill in prioritizing and planning. Skill in interpersonal relations. Skill in oral and written communication. SUPERVISORY CONTROLS The IT Director assigns work in terms of very general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results. GUIDELINES include industry best practices; manufacturer installation, operations and repair manuals; and department and county policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application. COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK The work consists of varied specialized duties. Frequent changes to industry standards contribute to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to provide specialized support for the county's computer network and related components. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell. The work is typically performed in an office, computer room, or outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts. Work re uires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc. SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY None. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
