Company Description
We are looking for a Lead EHS Engineer to join our LKZ plant and support the continued development of a strong safety culture and robust EHS performance. This role will play a key part in ensuring compliance with Wabtec EHS standards, Republic of Kazakhstan regulatory requirements, and international best practices while promoting a safe, healthy, and sustainable workplace.
The LKZ plant is a strategic manufacturing location within Wabtec’s global footprint, supporting railway and transportation solutions for the region. The site operates in a dynamic industrial environment and applies modern manufacturing processes, quality systems, and continuous improvement practices. Safety, compliance, and employee well‑being are fundamental priorities at LKZ, and the EHS function plays a critical role in ensuring safe operations, risk mitigation, and sustainable growth.
Job Description
Who will you be working with?
You will work closely with the Plant EHS Manager , plant leadership team, production, engineering, HR, and employees across the LKZ plant. The role also requires interaction with corporate EHS teams, external service providers, and local regulatory authorities to ensure alignment with Wabtec standards and Republic of Kazakhstan requirements.
How will you make a difference?
As a Lead EHS Engineer , you will be responsible for supporting the implementation, execution, and continuous improvement of the Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) management system. This role plays a critical part in ensuring workplace safety, regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, and the promotion of employee health and well‑being across the plant.
You will support the Plant EHS Manager by driving EHS programs, monitoring performance, conducting risk assessments and audits, managing incidents, and ensuring effective deployment of Wabtec EHS systems and tools. You will also actively contribute to building a strong safety culture and ensuring compliance with local regulations and international best practices.
What do we want to know about you?
Higher education in Engineering, Occupational Safety, Environmental Health , or a related technical field.
Proven experience in EHS roles within manufacturing or industrial environments.
Strong knowledge of Republic of Kazakhstan EHS legislation, industrial hygiene, and occupational safety requirements.
Experience working with EHS management systems and digital reporting tools.
Ability to independently conduct audits, incident investigations, risk assessments, and root‑cause analysis.
Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
Legal authorization to work in the Republic of Kazakhstan is required.
Proficiency in English and Kazakh is required.
What will your typical day look like?
Develop the annual EHS Plan, monitor execution, and track performance against defined milestones and KPIs.
Support deployment and ongoing maintenance of Wabtec EHS systems and tools, including WMS, Gensuite, and Wabtec Learning.
Conduct daily EHS inspections, safety audits, and risk assessments to identify and mitigate workplace hazards.
Monitor compliance with internal procedures, Wabtec standards, and RoK regulatory requirements.
Initiate, track, and manage corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
Participate in industrial hygiene activities, including laboratory examinations and instrumental measurements.
Organize and coordinate annual medical examinations, including planning, interaction with state authorities, and execution control.
Ensure timely incident and accident reporting, investigation, and root‑cause analysis.
Track incidents, near‑misses, and corrective actions in corporate reporting systems.
Prepare internal EHS analyses, performance reports, and required statistical and regulatory reports for state authorities.
Prepare technical specifications for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and control its procurement, availability, and usage.
Organize and lead the PPE assessment committee and support the occupational safety examination committee.
Initiate and manage EHS‑related contracts and service providers.
Develop, review, and update local EHS procedures, work instructions, and documentation in line with Wabtec and RoK requirements.
Actively promote safety culture, employee engagement, and well‑being initiatives across the plant
