Job Summary:We are seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to drive the hands-on development and sustainment of a Kubernetes platform built around RKE2, expand that platform to support Red Hat OpenShift, and support internal developer teams through shared CI/CD infrastructure. This role supports customer-site deployments in restricted environments and focuses on platform engineering, CI/CD enablement, and operational execution. The role will implement platform designs and deployment patterns defined by the Lead Architect while maintaining platform and CI/CD capabilities.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Extend and adapt platform capabilities to support and integrate with Red Hat OpenShift
Lead development of platform capabilities using industry best practices and standards
Develop platform tooling and services to support repeatable, automated deployments
Support installation, configuration, upgrades, and patching of platform components on customer-managed clusters
Implement Kubernetes and OpenShift security controls aligned with DoD STIGs, RMF, and NIST 800-53
Troubleshoot and resolve platform-level issues across development, test, and deployed environments
Design and maintain GitLab CI pipelines and shared pipeline templates
Maintain CI/CD runners, build environments, and supporting tooling
Assist developers with pipeline design, troubleshooting, and optimization
Support platform deployments at customer sites, including pre-deployment validation and post-deployment stabilization
Participate in incident response and root cause analysis related to platform or CI/CD services
Demonstrates deep technical ownership across Kubernetes platform and CI/CD infrastructure
Serves as a primary technical reference for RKE2, OpenShift, and GitLab CI/CD
Balances platform development with developer support responsibilities
Ensures solutions are robust, supportable, and aligned with architectural intent
Mentors engineers through design reviews, implementation guidance, and troubleshooting
Minimum Job Requirements
Four-year college degree in computer science, electronic engineering or other related technical discipline, plus a minimum of five years of related experience or a master’s degree with three years of related experience.
Experience to include software development/engineering, developing state-of-the-art computer software, exercising creativity in technical direction and successful strategy development.
Strong hands-on experience with Rancher RKE2.
Experience creating Helm charts and configuration artifacts for repeatable installs.
Strong scripting and automation skills (Python, Bash, Go, or similar).
Experience with observability tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, EFK/ELK, OpenSearch).
Experience working in classified, air-gapped, or otherwise restricted environments.
Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible, Salt, or similar).
Ability to use PC software such as word processing, database, spreadsheet and flowchart, and Computer Aided Software Engineering (CASE) tools.
Must be available for domestic and possible international travel.
Must be eligible to work in a DOD cleared facility
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with GitLab CI/CD, including pipeline authoring and runner management.
Hands-on experience with Red Hat OpenShift platform.
Experience operating Kubernetes-based systems in disconnected or limited-connectivity environments.
Software development experience, including integrating with Kubernetes.
Experience using dependency management tools (Renovate).
Experience deploying and managing VM-based infrastructure using Terraform / Tofu.
Familiarity with GitOps-style configuration management.
Knowledge of DoD compliance frameworks (RMF, STIGs, NIST 800-53).
Kubernetes, OpenShift, or GitLab certifications.
Active DoD Top Secret clearance.
Salary & Benefits:
Cubic pay range: 70,922.56 - 118,204.27 - 153,665.55 USD Annual plus benefits
