We are seeking an accomplished Senior Software Engineer who excels at designing and architecting large-scale, distributed systems. This engineer will join our Applied AI team, which focuses on incorporating generative AI and building innovative GenAI-based solutions while creating infrastructure and tools that support the organization. Our team has deployed small models, built classifiers, and is at the forefront of AI innovation.
This position is located in our Arlington, VA office and offers a schedule of Monday-Thursday in office and Friday work from home.
Responsibilities
Build large-scale, distributed, API-driven systems using Node.js and modern scalable design patterns on AWS
Design and implement infrastructure using Terraform, Docker, and build CI/CD pipelines for deployment
Architect and develop event-driven applications leveraging AWS services (Lambda, SQS, DynamoDB, S3, etc.)
Integrate generative AI capabilities and deploy machine learning models into production applications
Build and optimize small classifiers and work with both generative AI and classical machine learning approaches
Drive and lead software design, development standards, code reviews and production releases
Collaborate closely with other Software Engineers and AI practitioners across the organization
Continually evaluate emerging AI/ML technologies and scalable architecture patterns to identify opportunities and best practices
Willingness to take an active role in mentoring other developers
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree required from an accredited, in-person, not for profit university or college
5+ years of production development experience with Node.js building large-scale, mission-critical applications
Strong understanding of modern scalable design patterns and distributed systems architecture
Hands-on experience with AWS services including Lambda, SQS, DynamoDB, S3, and other core AWS resources
Proficiency with Terraform for infrastructure as code
Experience with Docker and containerization technologies
Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines and the full development lifecycle
Solid understanding of GenAI concepts and classical machine learning fundamentals
Experience in architecting, designing and building event-driven applications in an agile environment
Proficiency in unit and performance testing
A track record of commitment to previous employers
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with machine learning libraries (TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, Hugging Face Transformers) a plus
Hands-on experience deploying machine learning models to production a plus
Experience building small classifiers or working with model fine-tuning a plus
.NET Core development experience a plus
Experience with OpenSearch, Redis, Kafka a plus
