The Electrician Supervisor manages and oversees all electrical systems and electrical personnel across campus. This role is responsible for supervising electricians and support staff, ensuring all work complies with applicable codes and safety regulations, and managing work orders through a computerized maintenance system. The position plays a key role in the planning, coordination, and execution of electrical maintenance, repairs, new installations, and renovationsand#x2014;including campus-wide power distribution systems, lighting infrastructure, and specialized research or departmental equipment. Additionally, the role supports campus operations by coordinating temporary and permanent electrical setups for university events and emergency response situations..Supervisory and leadership.Provides leadership and oversight for the Electrical Shop by supervising staff, ensuring project execution, enforcing safety compliance, and managing administrative responsibilities. Ensures the delivery of high-quality, safe, and efficient electrical services across the university campus.Team Leadership and Development: Lead, train, schedule, and evaluate a team of electricians and technicians. Set clear goals and performance expectations, and provide mentorship to support team development.Performance Monitoring: Monitor staff performance, provide constructive feedback, and address performance or conduct issues in accordance with university policy.Safety and Code Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to all safety protocols and applicable codes and regulations, including the National Electrical Code (NEC). Promote a culture of safety and accountability.Quality Control: Establish and enforce standards of workmanship that reflect university expectations and industry best practices.Project Oversight: Oversee the planning, design, installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems for both new construction and renovation projects. Ensure all work aligns with campus standards and timelines.Coordination and Communication: Collaborate with contractors, vendors, facilities staff, and university project managers to ensure smooth execution of work, timely updates, and effective communication throughout all phases of projects.Personnel Administration: Approve time and absence requests, manage automated timekeeping, conduct performance evaluations, and make merit or disciplinary recommendations per university guidelines.Work Order and Record Management: Oversee the universityand#x2019;s automated work order system. Assign, monitor, and close service requests while ensuring accurate and timely completion. Maintain comprehensive records of timekeeping, payroll, material orders, and equipment maintenance.Meetings and Inspections: Conduct weekly team meetings to review current and upcoming projects, resolve issues, and ensure project coordination. Perform field inspections to verify the quality and progress of electrical work across campus.Training and Development: Facilitate technical and safety training programs. Promote best practices for tool usage, electrical distribution knowledge, and vehicle/tool inventory management.Budget and Planning.Oversees budgeting, forecasting, and resource planning for the Electrical Shop to support effective maintenance, operations, and infrastructure development.Budget Development and Management: Preparing and submitting annual and project-based budget requests; monitoring expenditures to ensure alignment with approved budgets and cost-effectiveness across operations.Cost Estimation and Financial Analysis: Providing electrical consultation and developing detailed cost estimates for renovations, new construction, and special projects to inform budgetary and strategic decisions.Long-Term Financial Planning: Assisting in multi-year forecasting and infrastructure planning efforts to support campus-wide electrical growth and system modernization.Strategic Planning: Contributing to departmental and university-level strat gic initiatives related to electrical infrastructure, resource allocation, energy efficiency, and process improvements.Materials and Resource Oversight: Managing electrical inventory, placing material and equipment orders, and ensuring the efficient use of supplies and labor for all electrical projects and routine operations.Project Management.Estimates the cost of electrical work for research facilities, campus renovations, and electrical distribution upgrades.Applying knowledge of electrical materials, building practices, lighting technologies, and pricing trends to develop accurate cost projections.Ensuring all estimates and installations comply with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and university standards.Collaborating with all campus partners in the planning, design, supervision, inspection, and oversight of electrical construction projects.Preparing detailed material and labor estimates for departmental budgeting and recordkeeping.Supervising the maintenance of both computerized and manual records for inventory, material orders, and campus-wide electrical project documentation.Designing electrical layouts for renovations, including researching lighting systems and controls, determining outlet and switch locations, and sizing generators, panels, switchgear, feeders, and services per NEC requirements.Technical Expertise.Provides expert oversight and hands-on involvement in the maintenance, design, and troubleshooting of campus electrical systems.Electrical System Maintenance and Repair: Overseeing the inspection, testing, and repair of electrical components, including high-voltage systems, backup generators, and related infrastructure to ensure safe and reliable operation.System Design and Layout: Designing electrical layouts for renovations and new installationsand#x2014;covering lighting, outlet placement, switching, and proper panel sizingand#x2014;based on National Electrical Code (NEC) and university standards.Problem Solving and Troubleshooting: Diagnosing and resolving complex electrical challenges across a wide range of systems and equipment.Blueprint and Schematic Interpretation: Reading and interpreting electrical blueprints, construction documents, schematics, and technical specifications to guide installation and repair work.Maintain and repair high voltage components (4,160 to 12,470 volts (V) alternating current (AC) or direct current (DC)), electrical distribution systems, and associated low voltage (120V to 600V) equipment.Work with high voltage plants, substations (48VDC and 120VDC control circuits for relay tripping and auto shutdown), vaults, manholes, generators, switchgear, transformers, relays, and other equipment and fixtures (campus outdoor lighting system, including streetlights, parking lot lights, exterior building lights and traffic signals).Emergency Response:Available to respond to electrical emergencies on a 24/7 basis, including outside normal working hours, as required by campus needs.Quickly and safely addressing critical incidents such as fires, electrical outages, flooding, and icy conditions that impact campus electrical systems.Utilizing comprehensive knowledge of the campus electrical distribution network to accurately diagnose and assess emergency situations.Planning and implementing corrective actions promptly to restore service and maintain safety standards.Communicating clearly with Facilities Management and other stakeholders regarding the severity, status, and resolution of emergency issues.Carry an on-call phone and respond promptly to emergency calls.Operating university-owned vehicles to access emergency sites across campus.Event Coordination.Assists in the installation and setup of temporary and permanent electrical services for a variety of campus special events.Installing electrical wiring, outlets, lighting, and power distribution in support of concerts, student move-in, homecoming, graduation ceremonies, Special Olympics, special dinners, student welcoming day, sport
