Job Title: Assembly Operator V
Location: Arden, NC 28704, USA
Shift: Weekend Friday to Sunday, 7am-7pm
Pay Rate: $34.16/hour (Base: $28.00/hour + 22% weekend shift premium)
Position Summary
The Assembly Operator V is a highly skilled role responsible for advanced fiber optic assembly, testing, and process support. This position plays a critical role in manufacturing optical connectors and cable assemblies, supporting new product introduction (NPI), and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically proficient, and thrives in a fast-paced, team-driven environment. This individual will also serve as a technical resource, assisting with training, troubleshooting, and process development.
Key Responsibilities
Assemble, terminate, polish, and test fiber optic cable assemblies and connectors
Set up and operate test stations for various cable assemblies
Perform advanced testing using optical and electronic test equipment
Support prototype builds, product validation, and pre-release NPI activities
Operate specialized equipment such as fiber routers and over-molding machines
Measure components using calipers, gauges, and other precision tools
Complete operational documentation to ensure product traceability
Troubleshoot equipment issues and perform minor repairs
Conduct cleaning and contamination assessments for optical assemblies
Perform workmanship inspections (EFG & IPC) on single and multi-fiber termini
Interpret technical drawings and derive measurements
Inspect finished products to ensure compliance with quality standards
Assist engineering teams with new product launches and process improvements
Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing efficiency and reduce costs
Train and mentor new and existing team members on processes and procedures
Serve as a technical escalation point for production and quality concerns
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
Follow all safety, quality, and company policies and procedures
Support production goals through overtime or off-shift work as needed
Back up team leadership when required
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED preferred
Minimum of 3 years of manufacturing experience
At least 2 years of fiber optic manufacturing experience required
Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for intricate work
Experience working with small parts, including microscope use
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
Experience with electronic test equipment (Oscilloscope, DMM, power supplies)
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data tracking and analysis
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards
Ability to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities effectively
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
Ability to work in a cleanroom environment with required PPE (gown, gloves, safety glasses, etc.)
Must be able to lift and move materials up to 50 pounds
Ability to remain in a stationary position up to 75% of the time
Ability to move between workstations as needed
